MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) The Marquette County Board of Health recommended an update to the county’s Tobacco and Vaping Ordinance at their meeting Wednesday night. The ordinance update seeks to include vaping devices, such as e-cigarettes, within current regulations of tobacco products. Right now, no such regulation exists for them. Experts say that’s a large public health concern, as use of vaping devices has sky-rocketed in recent years, especially among young people.

“The fundamental core of the thing is to regulate the sale of these type of devices to children under the age of 18,” Patrick Jacuzzo, Marquette County of Health Department’s Director of Environmental Health said.

Recent research has suggested that kids who use vaping devices are far more likely to become cigarette smokers.

The ordinance update will now go to the Marquette County Board of Commissioners for approval.
