Is It Socially Acceptable to Vape in Public? - Vogue.com

In Romania, vaping is pretty under the radar, so no one minds a vaper in a public place. Next month a law will be made that is banning smoking in closed public spaces. That would be everywhere from restaurants to bars. I'm curious how that would affect vaping, hopefully it won't.

 

We're also civilized human beings that shouldn't just do what we want, when we want with no regard for other people around us.

If you worked in a nursery and wanted a cigarette would you just light one up there and then because you can do what you want, when you want and show disregard for the children around you?

If people who vape showed that attitude, then I wouldn't be surprised if more and more restrictions are put in place, instead of the less that we're all hoping for.

 

You know people complained and complained about smoking, got their way and now they have decided to move on to the next thing. It really appears that some people have taken a personal vendetta on vaping. Instead of these people welcoming the exciting technology that is vaping, haters fall back on the tried-and-true human response of being wary of new things while hiding behind the thin veil of tradition. These types of people who lack the knowledge and therefore show ignorance towards vaping completely miss the fact that many vapers commit much more time and energy to their habit than smokers. Never mind the thriving online communities that bring people together from all over the world, forget about the brick and mortar stores popping up providing real people real jobs and supporting local economies. Nope. To these people, vaping is new and therefore it is bad. Who cares if this technology is an immense improvement over the combustion of actual tobacco along with thousands of other harmful chemicals to be inhaled into a person’s lungs? So with that said, I honestly really don't care if it is socially acceptable, I made a healthy life style change and that's all that matters. These people should stop worrying about vaping and start worrying a little more about the things that go into the food/drinks that they consume. In the end, these vaping haters don’t matter. Superior technology and a passionate community will always win out over those who decide to stubbornly hold on to the past.

 

While I do understand your point that there will always be somebody ready to complain about something, I do think that people who vape need to be especially careful at the moment.

While it is still relatively new, vaping is starting to attract more and more attention, both good and bad, so until vaping is seen as a good thing, and its proven that it helps people to stop smoking, it's best to try and keep these do gooders happy, at least just for now.

 

I actually totally agree with this. I know, I know... less problematic than cigarettes, but still. Although I see where it might be liberating to whip out your e-cigarette in places where you wouldn't be able to smoke, I still feel like you're sort of... asking to be asked about it. "Sir, you're not allowed to smoke in here."
"But ma'am... this isn't a regular cigarette... sit down and let me tell you about vaping."
Hahaha. All right, so that's not always true, but I've seen it happen.

 

There are some people that don't understand common courtesy, and it's that simple. It's like the guy driving down the street that didn't use his turn signal because he "didn't need to," nah you're just inconsiderate. The idea that vaping is ok because it isn't smoking is based on the idea that the world revolves around the person vaping, rather than the people directly near them. You're still invading their space in a way.

 

I am with you here. Personally, I've been at a restaurant with my wife and the people at the next table just started vaping while we were eating, and blowing huge clouds. I'm talking, these were show and video worthy. But it kept sweeping over our food and table. I just politely said, from one vaper to another, awesome cloud but could you please do that elsewhere? They apologized and everything was fine.

Maybe implement a vaping section? If anything, the various flavors will make a room smell nice

 

Nobody gives a damn or frowns at me when I'm walking my errands and vaping. Somebody even feels curious about the new device they haven't seen before.

 

I had quite a social experiment. I got all sorts of reaction while vaping on the street. Most people thought it was some kind of drug and thought me as a creep. Some were curious, some frowned, some even tried to distance themself although there is no passive damage to them unlike smoking. Therefore vaping is still not acceptable here. Awareness needs to be gained first.

 

Here in the UK its not uncommon to see people vaping on the streets and I don't think they get treated any differently that cigarette smokers.

While vaping is becoming more and more common, your right when you say that people aren't exactly sure of just what it is, and they think that being exposed to vaping is the same as tobacco smoke, when that's not the case at all.
