imo the only thing unsafe about it was the unprotected batts, hes not the first to have his cr2s explode on him.. i dont think the detonator is the prettiest mod either, but u just sound like an asshole dude. sounds like u got a detonator stuck up ur ass..

glad ur ok robert, let the haters hate.. im sure youve convinced many to put the cr2's down and thats a good thing.. who knows, u might of helped prevent a fatal accident or sumpthin..

    PEACE

Ummmmm Hello!! What went short in his pocket when it wasn't being used if it wasn't his unsafe mod???? Did you even read that back to yourself before you posted??

Don't hate Robert at all. But the last thing this industry needs is for the press to latch on to "Tonight on the news, Someone is selling a dangerous home made device that has even blown up on it's creator and yet he is still allowed to promote it and sell it to the unsuspecting public. This device aptly called the "Detonator" is used as a "Personal Vaporizer", an alternative to smoking. Authority's are currently attempting to have the use of these devices outlawed as unsafe. This man with no qualifications, experience or Engineering skill is continuing to make them on his kitchen table and even has YouTube videos showing kids how they can make their own Detonator.". Back that up with a pic of a Detonator and one of Robs leg and there will be outrage and a total lack of sympathizers to our cause!!

well i guess most every other PV is a "unsafe mod" because there all making devices that are uncompatable w cr2s in an effort to keep ppl safe.. either that or they reccomend not using cr2s or unprotected batts..
im not an electronics expert but it sounds like the batteries are atleast partly to blame..

but u did bring up a great point about authoritys seeing this and using this type of stuff against us to make electronic cigarettes look dangerous.. im sure there will be strict regulations to come in the future, but in the meantime if some1 wants a damn detonator let em buy one.. its like getting a tattoo with a homemade tattoo machine, ur taking a risk and its not gonna come out as nice as a professionals work.. u can make it illegal but theres still gonna be a market for it and any1 can build em..

why do we have to live in fear over this type of shyt in a "free" country.. damn i just wanna vape

No it's nothing like getting a tatoo. Robert IS legally and morraly responsible for the safety of the people he sells these to. If a person is injured by one he WILL be held responsible by law and if someone was to be killed Robert WILL be doing time. Particularly since he has been warned repeatadly in an open forum on public record.

The batteries ARE perfectly safe when used in a manner that they were designed to be used. I DO KNOW ABOUT THIS STUFF IT'S WHAT I DO FOR A LIVING!! In order for these batteries to vent the way they have they have to be shorted or run dramatically below their minimum voltage. THIS IS A DESIGN FAULT. The so called protection method of drilling bull shit holes was pointed out to Robert as an even more dangerous situation and he argued to the contrary continuously. The whole design is a mockery and an accident waiting to happen. Components that are required to dissipate heat are bound in a thermally insulated shield and then buried deep in a grave of non conductive JB weld to roast. Their expansion and contraction alone could generate component failure that in turn could have caused the short that caused this device to fail. Further Robert just says "I don't know why it happened" and leaves it at that. Any device that failed in a catastrophic manner particularly one that causes injury should be forensically examined to find the sauce of the failure.

Yes you live in a free country but your country still tries to protect you from idiots that sell potentially dangerous and poorly engineered rubbish. You can build on if you want. If you are injured by your own stupidity that is your responsibility. But this is Robs.

  6. Misuse & Assumption of risk would be a good defense. Heck throw in Commonly Known Danger in there too! Plus if he would of gotten sued, the battery company would be on that list.

You're a legal genious!! The best you could hope for with those newly created defences is Contributory or Comparative Negligence. This is not a defence it's a way of lessening the damages awarded in the inevitable outcome. Yes you could also name the Battery Manufacturer and they would march into court with their lawyers and their ENGINEERING REPORTS and the results of their extensive documented TESTING AND CERTIFICATION and walk out again in under an hour leaving Rob holding the bag.

OOps sorry Rob, what were the results of your testing??? BOOM!!

Still that's a piss poor attitude any way. If someone gets hurt, someone gets hurt!! Tha'ts wrong!! Continuing your actions that can cause harm just makes you an ASSHOLE even if you think you can get away with it!!

The reason Engineers go to university and spend years learning about this stuff is in part to protect YOU from OUR actions!!

The reason Personal Injury Lawyer gos to university and spend years learning about this stuff is also to protect YOU from OUR actions!!

Unfortunately you can discuss and debate all you want. Facts are facts, the law is the law and this is an unsafe product. No other Mod has EVER come under so much criticism from so many knowledgeable people.

What facts? What knoledgeable people? What the fuck r u taklking about? A cheap blue cr2 battery vented. I came on here to warn people about them. They have vented before. Now I changed the design- so the Detonator can't use cr2's and told everyone not to use them. I've only sold a few of these and anyone who bought one can return it to me so that it can be converted to use cr123a's So go fuck yourself and get off my back.

Damn, One would think a highly educated engineer like Silvegerthorn would know how to spell " genius" and "defense". Christ you rip this man a new asshole and we should take your word as gospel when you cant even spell 5th grade words. Ive been in the trades for years and the engineers are the guys always saying " the data looked right" ," it looked good on paper" , " the installer screwed up" . Its guys like Rob that take the chance and build something. The greatest inventors of our time have learned from making " mistakes". What mods have Adjam and Silverthorn made ? Your both pompous assholes.

  10. No spelling is not a requirement for my job. Spell checkers do that. Knowing how to calculate the velocity of expanding gasses and recognizing a bad idea is.

Ha ha Is this some kind of ECF sabotage?
Velocity of expanding gases? You sound like my uncle, he brews beer.
So what is your profession ? What are you a lawyer, an engineer, or have an opinion about everything kind of guy/girl?

And I hope you do know that this is not the only device that blew up using CR2s.
Why don't you try contacting Nikon and tell them what shitty of a job they did designing switches and cameras? (Since according to you all this is not the crappy battery's fault)

I have been using the GREEN CR2 batt's That i got from rick with my copper for months now and had no problems with the GREEN CR2's

But everyone that has had problems are with the BLUE CR2'S that i have seen so far

I have even spoken with rick about this and he told me the same thing ....nobody has had a problem with the copper using the GREEN CR2's

    Hey Robert,
glad to see the change to the protected 123's. I have protected cr2's, but until now, I hadn't seen the phony rc2's.

    Robert,

Thanks for coming here and telling us of your experience. That took guts and I admire it.

I happen to like your mod and videos. I'm a DIY kind of person who happens to believe that plastic bags and coffee cups shouldn't need warning labels.

Hey there Guineahill how've you been since VapeFest? My hand is much much better! I went to the doc on Monday after the fest... got me a shot, and some pills (yuck!)
You'd never know a cat bit me!

Robert man... you're doin a great job... Thanks for your honesty. :-D

jenntek - I have been well... busy building stuff! LOL

Glad your hand is better! It can be tough to fiddle with solder and switches when you can use your fingers!

Now... back to the topic. It is my belief that individuals need to take responsibility for themselves. If you see a design for something it is up to you to learn enough about it to determine if it satisfies your OWN requirements for safety and appropriateness for use. I think detonator is a great basic design. Personally I am a 3.7V person and I know that because I have built and used a higher voltage mod.

I use protected batteries for most applications because I don't have to worry so much when I toss the mod in my purse or pocket. There are some battery technologies that don't need protection. Most applications with batteries are a balancing act... between function and safety. And it is up to each person to determine if a design is for them.

Years ago there were recipes out there that included boiling closed cans of various things. The can acts as a small pressure cooker. Other countries still have such recipes. But we don't use them in the US anymore because people are stupid and they would let the water all evaporate or they would boil for too long or they would try to open the can while hot or a host of other things and the cans would explode. I still boil certain things in cans... and I will happily tell you how I make these things. It is up to you to determine if you want to take the risk and do it yourself. If you choose to use my technique then you accept responsibility to make sure you do so safely.

Experimentation is the basis for everything wonderful. Take responsibility. Try to do it safely. Expects set backs. Enjoy learning! Share your knowledge!

Again, thank you Robert for you mod and your videos. And thank you for coming here and telling us about your experiences! Keep on learning and sharing!

Thanks for the kind words. My latest ones are swtarting to look better- this has allways been kind of a personal challenge for me, I had never made anything like this before so every time I make them better it makes me happy.
