Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience to me I mixed up some key lime flavour juice and I vaped some after making it fresh and it tasted good had a decent Limey flavour but after it has steeped the flavour was pretty much gone could barely taste any flavour. I mixed at 70/30 and added 1.5% sweetener could the sweetener have affected the flavour? Or any ideas what might have? Thanks :)

What percentage did you use ? Also was it on it's own or mixed with other flavours ?

1.5% sweetener shouldn't have dulled the flavour. I find that sweetener won't start to overpower unless you go above 4% (dependant on what flavour). I also find that in most cases you need another flavour in small percentages to "carry" the main flavour. For example with citrussy type flavours I stick in 1-2% yellow cake. The yellow cake will add sweetness and "carry" or give the flavour a bit of body without destroying the fresh taste. If for example you added sweet cream it will also add sweetness and "carry" but tends to dull the fruity flavour down a whisker, so sometimes I will use sweet cream.

As for flavour "disappearing", yep that happens to me a lot which is why I tend to mix up in maximum of 15ml batches. I will do a 30ml if I know the flavour will last. I buy concentrates and flavour loss starts to happen after about 4 to 5 weeks (mixing at appx the 25%). I buy T-juice concentrate (mix at 15-18%) and there will be no flavour loss no matter how long. If I buy premixed ejuice from overseas there is no flavour loss either. Hmmmmm.

Another thing which can affect it is the quality of your nic, pg and vg.

I've only covered a couple of issues and I'm sure there are also other more experienced mixers on here who can chip in other explanations why this may be happening to you. In this hobby, it comes down to a process of elimination and trial and error.

Also I don't keep any in the fridge. Dark cupboard does the job nicely. However excess nic, pg and vg goes in the freezer.
    Cheers

Joe I tend to mix mints, menthols and occasional fruits but I do know there are huge differences in the brand of concentrates you use. Some rely on the aromatic notes to flavour your Eliquid. If they do you need to use the Eliquid fresh or else they evaporate.

One of the tricks FM mentioned a while ago is to hold your nose while you taste something. If the concentrates rely on aromatics you won't be able to taste it. It could be that your main ingredient is one of those. I use taste and smell for much of my tasting before it even gets to vaping it.

Sodd mentioned t-Juice as one that does not loose flavour. In my experience with them they use extracts rather than aromatics. So you get a lot of mouth feel with them.
This is my opinion only and based on how I mix. I have switched a lot of my concentrates to the perfumers apprentice and the flavour apprentice be.comse they seem to hold their flavour much better.

Thanks very much for your input guys the concentrate I used was tfa keylime flavour @ 10% used as a single flavour. I have only used tfa and fa concentrates. My Nic is from rts vapes which I keep in the freezer in glass bottles and the pg and vg is from steam e cigs which I keep in the fridge along with the concentrates and these were also newly bought. My mixes are about 2-3 weeks old. I didn't know about some concentrates losing their flavours so I guess I'll have to take note which ones do and just mix them up fresh with some plain e juice I've mixed up. I thought all juice would benefit from steeping but that must not be the case in all flavours. I thought the hot days we have been having might have had an effect on the flavours so I think I'll test of keeping them cool will help them retain their flavour

So much of mixing seems to be trial and error. I have only managed a few that I would consider top class. All the others just become a bit bland. Nice for the first few weeks then drop off. Good luck with it though it's fun when you get one right.

Sorry I was a bit slow there and missed your question.

I consider fresh mix is under 2 weeks. Probably best in the 1st week.

t-Juice is a vendor who sells concentrates of their preblended eliquids. You can get them from Vapeking and House of Vapes. House of Vapes also has pink spot concentrates but I am not a fan of them. Its a very good way of mixing some nice Eliquid to a strength that matches your own taste. You would normally mix 15% of their concentrate to your nic/pg/VG but that's just a guide.

    Chris,
What you have mentioned is something that I hadn't even considered, I'll have to investigate further.
