The discussion about vaping being a much safer choice than smoking remains debatable. However, more and more studies appear to bump off this notion.

A new study implies that vaping and smoking tobacco have equal, damaging effects to our hearts.

The research was done by Imperial College London to clarify and to investigate the effects of e-cigarettes to our bodies, especially that more and more people are getting curious if the device is really helping chain smokers get over the vice.

In connection to this, reports from the Public Health England released a year ago told smokers to shift to using electronic cigarettes so they can gradually stop from smoking tobacco. Because of this, vapes have increased in popularity. E-cigarette companies have also slowly convinced smokers to do the switch.

Researchers: Vaping Bad for The Heart

Scientists looked into the effects of vaping and deliberated its effect called aortic stiffness. In the study, they observed 24 adults with an average age of 30. University Professor Charalambos Vlachopoulos of the Athens Medical School says that the aorta is a very helpful organ which helps in regulating the pumping of the heart. He said that the stiffer the aorta gets, the harder it is for the heart to pump.

Vlachopoulos also added that the aorta is the most powerful biomarker in measuring cardiovascular risks. By being able to see the aorta getting weaker in its role to our heart, one can also observe a person's risk of dying in various heart-related diseases.

By doing the experiment, they were able to find out that vaping for 30 minutes (since it records a much lower nicotine content, e-cigarette smokers use the device longer) and smoking tobacco for 5 minutes have similar effects to the aorta.

However, this study is still being contested by other scientists and researchers as they challenge their findings with the effects of caffeine posing short-term aorta stiffness tendencies to drinkers.

More Studies say Vaping Not Safe

The recent study from the Athens Medical School is not the only one that have challenged the safety of e-cigarettes.

For one, Harvard University has already released a study last year relating vape-smoking as a cause for lung disease.

Another is the study from the University of California, San Diego which gave findings that e-cigarettes may become a hive for bacteria especially when the user do not clean his vape device as frequently as possible. The study also said that vapes can intoxicate airway cells and may promote inflammation due to prolonged use.
