Using foil to make batt connection

My varitube came with batts that didn't have a nipple, I used them just a couple of times because I ordered some better ones. It didn't occurs to me that the new ones had a nipple and really didn't think much about it, but when I put the original ones back in, the no longer work... Perplexed. Did the nipple shove something up so that the non-nipples no longer make contact? I folded up a piece of foil and put it in before the batts, and it works. Question is, is this ok?

Try a rare earth magnet I do this all the time
foil will work but it could short out

Laurabolyard I don't have a varitube so I am unfamiliar with the innards on it. If like many of the mods it has a spring while you were using the nippled batteries the spring could have become compressed enough that it no longer makes a good contact with the non-nippled batteries.

If the varitube does have a spring you could stretch it just a bit in order to create a good contact with the battery.

You may want to try one of these.

The new batts are IMR, orig are the stock ICR. There is a spring that I can see (now that it's daylight ;) ), but the unit is plastic and long. Even if I were able to get to it, I'm afraid I would break it!!

So foil NOT a good idea??

Bert, that looks cool!!

Oh you should be fine with foil then but the magnets are cheap at home depot and are a bit more elegant solution IMHO

If you do get the rare earth magnets make sure they are the silver colored ones the others could explode

Dammit fsors, it doesn't sound like I will be trying that!! I did have some thin ones, but a bit corroded. I have others, but too fat. I use them in my reef tanks to hold things to the glass. A bit afraid to try them in this fashion!!!

If your tube was metal and you were connecting the foil to the + and If the foil happens to slip and touch the body which is the - part of the circ you would get and meltdown short
