I got to play with my UDT-L today and made a little discovery so I did a video to show it off.

A correction I quoted the voltage drop wrong I should of said .59 volt drop not .39/.40 drop.

The percent improvement is 50% drop in power loss.. sounds good like that..

I really like this mod..all brass chrome plated..very nice..

Update: The probable reason the modded UDT-L was jumping up in voltage is that the copper braid needs to be tucked under the spring on the bottom to insure good contact..

'She must be building' hah :D
I wonder if noalox/ox gard would do the trick?

Thanks for the post that is a great little trick to boost the output on the UDT-L. I'm still waiting on the round 3 CO-OP for these to end so I can get my hands on a couple. I was excited before but now you really have me itching to get my hands on them :)

Oh I am well aware... Already have my bid for 2 in just waiting on it to fill up so I can get it in hand :)

I wonder if a silver bullet hot spring would do the same. I think I have one here if I can find it. I'll see if it's copper and give that a try. Thank you northhar for the informative video. You also answered my question about whether or not it could be repaired if needed.

7. Thats a question I had also will that little trick work on any or most mods, ex. Rough Stacks?

8. That is really, really cool.

If one was to uncoil a spring they will see it's rather long, lotsa useless parasitic resistance. I tried something similar by soldering a small loop of wire from the top coil to the bottom coil (basically paralleling, hence cutting the resistance). I tried shoving a small spring from a pen into the larger spring (not bad). I also tried (hard to describe) bending/scrunching/distorting the spring so that when compressed the coils would mostly touch, efectively 'shortening' the path. All helped to some degree.

But your way is so simple, elegant and obviously quite effective.

Great job, post and vid.

NOTE: You probably will soon be hearing from the safety Nazis. :)

I didn't have the copper mesh northhar used, but I did have some copper wire scrap laying around. I don't have one of those neato voltage testers to check the output under load, but the vapor clouds I'm blowing out are a lot bigger in comparison to the spring it came with.

10. It works very well with any mod that is a wire and a switch and a spring.
I had been using this on my E-powers and the 2200mah mod from health cabin with very little return.
When I tried it on the UDT-L I realized that the electronics and the wiring in the the other mods were eating the power.
The UDT-L spring is also long so by-passing it helped a lot..

11. The problem with copper is it dose not have much spring to it, and what little spring it has it loses it eventually..That is why you may find brass springs which are better but spring steel is the best and of course the cheapest..

Here is something else you can use and should be easy to pickup at a local radioshack.. De-soldering wick just make sure it is copper, which it usually is.
here is an amazon link..

Glad you enjoyed the mod..

Nevermind, was able to take out the white disc this time with ease.. just screws out, wouldn't budge before.

13. I put an update into the first post.. the probable reason the modded UDT-L was jumping up in voltage is because the copper braid did not have good contact with the bottom of the spring...

The copper braid needs to be tucked under the spring on the bottom to insure good contact..

Wow you learn something new every day...Thanks for the vid & post Northar...Off to radio shack I go...I'm getting one of these mods in the co-op as well :)

Hi Northhar. I didn.t have any braided wire so I coiled a piece of copper wire just small enough to thread into the existing spring on my pipe mod. Big time change in voltage. Now I have the conductivity of the copper whilst the spring keeps the tension on the bottom of the bat.

Thanks to you and BB for showing this to me.:clap2:

Thanks for this post and your video Northar very much appreciated!
I received my two UDT-L mods today and switched the springs out with new replacement copper Silver Bullet/Omega springs that I ordered from AltSmoke after I read this thread. They fit like they were made for it and work like a charm ~ thanks for that suggestion hairball! I just bought a new silver bullet and when I checked the spring it was copper. AltSmoke even suggest you switch out the spring in your Silver Bullet/Omega for their new replacement copper ones if yours still have the silver colored ones because the copper ones have a lower resistance and allow you to have better vapor. :)
