Teen driver, distracted by vaping device, crashes in Highland, officials say

A teen girl who was apparently distracted by a vaping device ended up crashing the vehicle she was driving in a light pole and suffering minor injuries in Highland Friday.

The crash was reported about 2:30 p.m. in the area of Greenspot and Alta Vista roads, according to a San Bernardino County sheriff's news release.

Sheriff's officials say the 17-year-old girl was driving west on Greenspot Road when she became distracted by the device and took her eyes off the road. They say that's when she crashed through the light pole and continued into a field before circling back onto the roadway.

Deputies arrived to find the girl suffering minor injuries and she was taken to the hospital. The deputies believe she was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash, according to officials.
