Several illegal vape dealers in Liverpool shut down

Liverpool, UK recently conducted a comprehensive sealing of stores selling illegal vapes. Since Oct. 2023, the city has closed eight vape retail stores selling illegal vapes. Just in one store alone, more than 1,200 illegal devices were seized.

The new approach is taking thousands of illegal vaping products off the streets by forcing the closure of businesses engaging in anti-social behavior through legislation first used during the coronavirus pandemic. Liverpool City Council is the first in north-west England to adopt this strategy. Businesses caught will be fined and subject to a three-month closure order.

Illegal vapes seized by authorities were found to contain nicotine concentrations well above the legal limit of 20 milligrams per milliliter. Also, there are other prohibited ingredients such as colorants, caffeine and taurine.

Cllr Harry Doyle, Liverpool City Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Culture, said:
"It's pleasing to see so many illegal products disappear from our streets. In many cases these vapes may falling into the hands of young people. Liverpool Council is pioneering this new approach to tackling illegal sales. And we urge the smokers who use vapes as a means to quit smoking should purchase from reputable sellers.”
