Oklahoma, USA proposes e-cigarette product registration system
Faced with the problem of e-cigarette abuse in Oklahoma, the Oklahoma Legislature has made youth issues its highest priority.
The state’s House Bill 2511 is the first bill in the country to establish a public registration system for e-cigarette products. This bill provides for the disclosure of all Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved e-cigarette products. The registration system will be officially launched by the Oklahoma ABLE Committee on October 1 this year.
According to statistics, more than 60% of students who smoke e-cigarettes use disposable e-cigarette devices. In addition, the market for flavored e-cigarette products has expanded by more than 1,500% since 2020, with most vapes from China.
Oklahoma parents and educators are calling on the government to come up with solutions to protect youth from these illegal products.
At the same time, the registration system also helps retailers in the state comply with all applicable laws. House Majority Leader Jon Echols is pushing House 3971, a bill aimed at strengthening the power of local law enforcement. This bill aims to increase law enforcement transparency and give law enforcement officers more powers.
Echols said this is an important step to protect youth health. And look forward to gaining the support of more lawmakers to push the bill through the House and eventually to the governor's desk.
"We are proud to be a leader in combating black market vaping products, but more enforcement is needed," said House Education Committee Chairwoman Ronda Baker.
