yes you read right. a hotrod blew up in eskimos face while he was vaping... well to be honest it was apparently a battery which blew up, and shot apart the mod... so now we know to try to drill 32 degree slots in the tube for gaseous expansion... this is like the 4th time something like this happens... BUY PROTECTED BATTERIES!!! oh god.. he's got knicks on his hand from it lol

With an explosion like that, I think protected bats are more of a solution then a couple holes, But from now on I will have vent holes in my mods.

    Glad your ok Eski!!

They are called protected batteries for a reason, now you know why. It sucks that it blew up, but live and learn. Always use protected batteries otherwise you are playing with a pipe bomb with no control over when it will go off.

Not sure holes in a mod would help in anyway, it wouldn't prevent a battery from exploding, it would just release any fumes out of the holes while it is exploding. and a battery exploding in there anyway will do more then just spew fumes out the holes. and see that hands n almost any mod cover most of the battery the vent would either be covered by the hand, or would spew the fumes out onto the hand. I don't think vents are the resolution, a Protected battery might be.

maybe a fuse is the answer? or circuit breaker lol

  13. Wait, so this is the second time you've had CR2s blow up in your face?

Or are there two Eskimos that like using unprotected batteries and explosions?

  14. There were two eskimo's i guess. My name on ECF is EskimoSwagg

Wow, glad he's ok. That thing looks shot.

  16. Vent holes will more then help, they keep the rapidly expanding gases from being contained and thus exploding the device apart. I know, i've tested it. Doesn't mean you may not get burned, but it can help to keep shrapnel for flying into your face....

I too had bought some different 18650's when I first got my SB (& don't use em anymore cuz I'm a 6V-head now & 3.7 just blows by comparison... until my JB arrives anyway). I have a variety f colors, some of them are blue, grey & maroon & all from the same manufacturer. Upon close inspection I found one set did not clearly mention 'protected' anywhere. The result is that the same manufacturers tend to make both protected & un-protected batts. Protected one's will say protected while the unprotected one's just wont say anything of the sort. It is therefore of utmost importance to buy batts that are 'protected' & not t just go by the color. So I realized after the fact that I now have 2 batts that are not protected & I'm afraid to bothr even opening them. BatteryJunction.com has a good variety & since they're in the US you wont have to wait too long for em. It should also be mentioned that LiFePO4 batteries are also considered to be safe due to safer chemistries that go into them making the risk for explosion nullified as well. In short: only buy batts that say "protected" or "LiFePO4" & you'll be safe.

Does it say "Rechargeable battery with PCB"?

  20. Yeah that's a protected (PCB=Protection Circuit Board). Sorry I should have mentioned it's abbreviated name. ;)
