So I have asked in some other forums (we shall keep their names anonymous), I am interested in making a mechanical mod out of these, but I have gotten zero replies. I have made some 3.7 box mods but that's it. So this a new adventure and I have no idea where to begin, so any help is greatly appreciated.

I don't see why you couldn't but the lack of a lock on the button plus the fact it would be a bottom-button mod (not everyone's cup of tea) is holding back comment. Dude, also, it sure as hell look a lot like a screwdriver, one of the oldest mods out there......:)

I'm sure that I can I just don't think I understand the concept of the bottom button mods.

yuttynutt a very simplified explaination is in a bottom button tube mod the tube body is your ground, the positive connection is at the top where the attie or carto screws on, the negative is at the bottom and there is a button which when pressed compresses a spring inside the tube contacting the negative end of the battery which completes the circuit and fires the attie.

5. I can see a couple issues that while not insurmountable will be diffcult to get around. It's really hard to tell how possible it will be to get that button out without messing it up and you will need a way to get to that end. There's no indication of the dimensions of the hole. You might only be able to get a 10440 in there. If you got one and could provide more of those type details, there might be a way. As it stands, I can't even say it's possible.

A problem may be getting a connection head into the hole on a gear selector knob. Gear selector knobs are held on by a small allen screw putting pressure on the rod inside it, meaning there will be no threads and tapping that may be difficult too because of the type of metal used (if it is even metal at all).

yuttynutt my reply was just to help you understand the mechanics of a bottom button mod not necessarily the specific item you are thinking about modding.

Iv done a mechanic mod with a shift knob .You have to use the right one. That one wont work. You need one that thread apart so you can put the battery in. Its a pain to find things to make it work but it is possible with the right one.

The mod on the left was a shift knob. It threads apart where the machined rings are. I made the mechanical switch by pressure fitting a plastic grommet it the bottm with a post that goes through the grommet that touches the battery. You need to isollate the plunger from the battery so it only touches when you push it. THe top 510 connector has a copper post coming off the center connector so it makes contact with the battery all the time. Biggest battery i could fit in it was only a single 14500 batt though so its not really worth the trouble.

So more of a pain than necessary? Maybe I should try and find something else to use :D

Yea it looks decent but it really doesnt make the ideal mod function wise imo. The spring is also a bit stiff for a bottom button mod. Not trying to turn you away from doing it just dont want you to be under impressed.

13. yuttynutt I would definitely be paying close attention to STR8V8PING's advice he has created some great mods and I totally respect his knowledge and abilities.

Nu-Vapor is truly fortunate to have him sharing his knowledge and expertise. My personal thanks to you STR8V8PING for sharing with all of us. [IMG]

BTW looking forward to your creations as a vendor here.

Copper tubing makes for a good homemade tube mod
