My first flashlight mod

I know, everyone has made at least one of these, this is my first ...

My first do-it-yourself 'screwdriver' or flashlight mod ???? Aluminum 3-piece body, momentary switch, 510 connector, 18500 LiIon battery. No LED on this one, couldn't figure out an attractive place to put one. :D As with my boxmod, it vapes nicely.

Made entirely of recycled parts. Cost: $0.00 ... that's possibly the best part of all

  2. Great job man, you should post some more up close pictures of it

I used the led mount, enlarged the center hole, mounted the 510 batt connector. Got washer just the right size to use for a hood, Here's a couple of closeups of the top. Hope they are in focus :)

Glad it works, that looks like it used to be a nice flash light

Yup, a friend bought it last year at our local hardware store. 8 LEDs and a red laser. He said he paid $6 for it :)

I have a nice one kinda like that, except it is a tactile flashlight I used to use when I was Military Police I paid like 65 for it. Sorry for the derailing your thread a bit

My local conv store has some but they're all decorated with flowers, etc. Thinking maybe I should do another for my wife, she might just use it if it looks girly :)

They might actualy be a good enough selling point for it

That is pretty nice, good job! Can't beat that price either!
I got a similar led flashlight with laser pointer in the middle for one of these mods. I'm just hoping I have space in it to put a voltage regulator, potentiometer, and voltage readout for variable voltage vaping. Did yours start out with the push button on the bottom of the flashlight, or were you able to replace the stock one with a momentary switch in the same spot?

  12. That is probably one of the best looking flashlight mods I have seen. Great Job.

This particular one does not have a bottom switch, it was on the side where I mounted the momentary switch. To make a VV PV I don't think there will be enough room for everything, probably need something bigger ???

If it weren't for the readout, you could probably do it, the top part measures about 1" dia x 1.625 long, adequate for VR chip and mini-pot, but not LED readout. Use external voltmeter to calibrate it.

You can get really small potentiometers if one wanted to make it VV.

Those will not work directly. They are only rated for 1/4 watts and I am sure 1 watt will fry it instantly.

Seeing most vaper want between 8-10 watts this pot would let loose in a hurry. Now if you were using it in conjunction with in a complex circuit to adjust resistance to a certain switch to modify the regulation then it would work fine.

Yeah, I was thinking more along the lines of a 3W, just need to find one cheap and small enough. I desoldered on from my wife's old hair straightener, but I really need to check it's specs. Don't think it'll handle that much power going through it. I don't think I've got enough room for anything too complicated, probably enough for a voltage divider, regulator, switch, etc.
External mount on the voltage readout isn't a bad idea, I might be able to make that work. Of course it may be a while until I can find that extra 25th hour on the eighth day of the week to do it!

  18. I am a ways from trying a VV, just wanna make a 5v mod for my next job

Sounds good to me. I saw a vid of a solar charger mod that I think I might work on before I can get a flashlight mod done like I want. I think if I remember the ouput voltage on the solar mod is 5v.
