These are preliminary tests of the new Evolv DNA 12 module.
Testing right now with (2) paralleled 18650 Trustfires but will later use (2) Li-Po 20c batteries.
The Trustfires are under rated for the DNA as you can see by the Battery Level readings. Voltage drops from 4.17v to 3.27v Definitely need higher "C" rating batteries as per DNA spec sheet.

Update on battery: Just tried my half charged Li-Po's on it and it only dropped Four Hundreds of a volt (0.04v). Will be testing Lower resistance later on.

  2. Nice to still see you going at it break don't pretend to know everything you talk about but you always do quality work

Wow, that's quite a drop with typical batts -- how about AW IMR's?

That's with fairly low C-rated 18650s, Rip. IMR's will do much better.

I'm so freaking jealous, Breaktru. You get all the awesome toys. Now take that circuit, put it in a tube with a digital pot, and send me two. :-D

  5. Yes Chaos. It fits nicely in a tube w/ a D.P. Now get to work on it :)

Does the DNA got hot under load?

I'll touch it and let you know. I imagine they put a heat sink on it for a reason.

LoL. If only I had the skill to do that...

    So, where's the display from?

    The programming difficult?

I'm programming in C and C++ which I have prior knowledge of.

  11. Yeah, I haven't gotten off my ass to learn C yet. I'll probably tackle Python first.

Well, it's only a matter of time before someone takes the DNA, pairs it with a screen like that, and makes a bad-ass 18650 tube mod. Better start saving my pennies.

Basically a modders version of the kick

I have found that the Voltage, Amperage and Wattage readings fluctuate considerably while holding down the fire button.
With two 20c Li-Pos in parallel, the highest wattage achieved is 10.58 watts. Starts at 9.68 watts and fluctuates to values in between to max of 10.58.
With one 20c I get slightly lower max of 10.02 watts.
Tried with a 2.5 ohm and a 1.02 ohm load. NO difference in readings.

As per datasheet 3.3 ohms should get you 12 watts but I tried a 3.3 ohm atty and only get 9.7 watts.
I also notice that it is a pulsed output. I can hear the atty pulsing on and off. That's why the readings fluctuate.

This is weird: Wanted to see if I see a red err LED on the DNA so I tried the 3.3 ohm atty again and got NO pulsing and get 10.38 watts. Still fluctuating readings. NO red LED indicating.

I understand that VW maintains wattage with the load. Resistance of atty may vary and the DNA adjusts accordingly to maintain the set wattage. But........ Wattage readings should NOT fluctuate.
Also most of my testing is with a fixed load. A Ceramic 20 watt resistor. No resistance variation should occur.

  17. I am doing my best to follow this thread as it really interests me. I just feel like I am attempting to run when I'm not even ready to crawl yet. :(

Thats a interesting find. Wattage should be stable in a VW device even if the atty changes resistance as it heats up. What ohm Pot are you using? I thought i remembered reading there was a large range of recomended pots. Was the output overated on the kick?

    10k pot.
The kick? ya mean DNA right?
Max wattage is spec'ed at 12w but can't get above 10.58w. Mamu is having the same results. She can't get above 10w
