Ethyl Maltol Explained

Hey people after reading through a few recipes this ethyl maltol keeps popping up. Can someone please explain what it's purpose is in diy juices:

 

It's a sweetener & IMO isn't needed in most cases. I find juice is sweet enough if you blend the flavors well.

 

Thanks Noe I've already got sweetener in the flavor collection. You are right in what you're saying, I only add between 1-2% in some of my experiments. Thanks for the heads-up

 

EM does also add to the flavor in some juices, I do use it for the flavor but not for the sweetener aspect.
When I use it for flavor I am conscious that it is also a sweetener & use it sparingly, then also know I need to balance that extra sweetness. 1% is probably as much as you should need in any juice & much more than I would use.
