OK, I know this is not an original idea, but perhaps my spin on the theme is different? I saw these cool emergency USB cell phone chargers on Ebay for $3 (shipping included) and thought "Wouldn't they make neat PVs?" Well, got them in yesterday and, since nothing was good on the TV, I found myself back down at my workbench. This is the result.

The device took 2-AA batts (2.5v total) and, with a voltage doubling circuit, to give you 5v @500mA output to a female USB, which you could plug your cell or other device which charges by USB. Neat concept, huh? Well, it was neat for about 10 seconds. Unfortunately, my cartomizer drew about 1.7 amps, so the circuit was soon smoked. Time for surgery!

The device now runs on 2-14500 900mAh batteries and is controlled by a MV 5v 3a regulator. Not only does it provide 5v @3a to the USB output, it vapes like a monster too! You have to remove the batts to charge, but I can live with that.

Here it is, looking almost stock, eh?

    Nothing like 5v vaping ;)

Wish I could show you the circuit board mods, but I busted one of the tabs that held the case together, had to use superglue to reassemble. Sorry

    Cost (more than my usual)

    USB Emergency Supply (ebay) $3
    Regulator (madvapes) $2.25
    510 connector (goodprophets) $1

    Total: about 6 bucks

  4. Hey, check this out ... my white mod is charging my Janty Stick ... with 3 amps @5v USB output, this baby has enough juice to recharge just about any USB-chargeable device. I am getting a USB passthru, betcha I will be able to plug it right into the white mod and use it on the road (kinda redundant, though)
