    Hey guys,
I remember back a few years ago when I kicked the analogues, like many of you, I was always defending pulling out the greensmoke in front of my peers instead of sparking up a PJ (not a euphemism). Fast forward to today, and you can see quite a few people using e-cigarettes/vaporizers. I've also noticed a trend out in the city, people who don't use them are becoming increasingly curious and will often ask to try. Why wouldn't they? Humans are curious, and the great thing about not smoking actual cigs, is the boost to your health! The truth though is you don't know, and even they don't know, how healthy they are. Are they carrying a virus, cold, or anything else?

I know its common sense, so I guess this is a friendly reminder, to keep the mouth piece of your vape clean when you can. We all know PG/VG have mild antiseptic properties, so your juice is safe, but the ends of your clearos, tanks, driptips etc... can hold bugs fo days! Also consider how you handle your e-cig. Many of them sit in our pockets with the mouth piece the closest to grab, so they get pulled out of the pocket like that. If you consider the whole "how many people touch the surfaces we touch" scenario, the last thing you want to be putting your hands on is something you're going to vape on, especially if something is going around during cold & flu season.

Anyway, hope that was some food for thought. I know there exist anti microbial materials, it would be cool if they started manufacturing certain parts of e-cigs out of these. Or even if one did get sick, a vape with anti microbial properties or probiotic properties. Thoughts?

I always carry a little jar of coconut oil with me in my backpack.. Comes in handy becomse its a moisturiser, decongestant, antibacterial, antifungal and disinfectant (along with numerous health benefits that I won't list here)

For those that cant be bothered with that though.. I can vouch for this 100%. Cheapest hand sanitiser on ebay (if you don't count the little 30ml bottle) and it does the job!

Himalaya Herbal Hand Sanitizer 50 ML Lemon Free Shipping World Wide | eBay

Good post! Always gargle water as well to prevent buildup of any shit in your mouth / on your teeth that may arise from vaping :)

I find the swirls around the KF4 drip tip gather more particles (dust, skin cells from lips, whatever) than smooth drip tips. If anyone happens to know of some drip tips of the same dimensions as the SM KF4 one, please let me know.

I like using those drawstring bags from Fasttech https://www.fasttech.com/p/1740004 Protects your vape from pocket fluff, dirt, scratches, and allows you to pull out a nondescript black pouch instead of a shiny silver rod; in those instances you need to stealth vape somewhere.

Not sure whether SS with anti microbial properties would be possible, but some additive for your juice would be great.

Great posts guys, and loving the tips. I had a cold when I started vaping, and got a spearmint (Read that as, menthol) juice with my starter kit. I did notice it helped slightly with my blocked sinuses - kind of like using a humidifier with eucalyptus in it. Would be interesting to see whether other people have found the same thing, or if certain flavours block them up more.

Also, Copper is naturally antimicrobial, which will be good news for those with copper mech mods (or even chrome plated copper tanks - strip the chrome off maybe?

Wow, nice one timm4h.. I can see things developing from that in the future with things like lavender infused vape juices to help people sleep, or other remedial effects showing up in concentrates!

thats actually an interest of mine Deja, Hopefully when i get this DIYbio lab up and running in Melbourne, that could be one of the possible projects. Personal vaporizer herbal remedies. On that note, for all you scientists out ther, if anyone is interested in hackerspaces, DIYbio, or BIOhacking (pretty much all the same ) in Melbourne, check out https://www.facebook.com/groups/698017880316967/ . We are still a ways out from having a location, but we have just taken the first steps to becoming a Not-for-profit :)

Might be a dumb question but I gather you are taking about Eliquid that does not contain nicotine. I would have thought that nicotine would have an opposing effect on state of mind.

If you are talking just herbal remedies then ingestion of teas and tonics would hit the system more efficiently than inhalation of diluted vapour.

    Here are my tips:

For the oil cartridge: Use a cotton swab or the cleaning tool that comes with it. You can use alcohol outside the cartridge but not inside it.

For the mouthpiece: Use a cotton cloth or swab to clean it up as well.

Last tip: Warm up the vaporiser a bit to let the residue come off easily. The mouthpiece can be cleaned with water but with the other parts, check the manual first.

For me, I never let anyone use my vape except my husband. And even if I let him use it, I ask him to brush his teeth first. Haha!

This a a great post! I am a freak when it comes to keeping the inside and the outside of my mod clean. It sometimes bothers me that the tip that I use is plastic because bacteria can get trapped in the areas where there are scratches. It's a catch 22 for me though, I really prefer the plastic tip versus the metal tip. I've tried the metal tips before and I cannot believe how easy it is to accidentally bump the tip into your teeth. I switched from the metal tip to the plastic tip because I was seriously afraid that I was going to chip a tooth. So now when I start to notice that my plastic tip is starting to get beat up and scratch, I buy a new one and replace it. When I am on the go I always make sure to carry around a travel size pack of antibacterial wipes. I use the wipes to clean the outside of the mod, atomizer tip, etc. I also always keep a silicone sleeve on my mod for easy cleaning. I just remove the sleeve and wash in warm water with Dial dish soap. I like the coconut oil idea that someone else had mentioned, coconut oil is great because it's natural! If you are going for the natural approach to cleaning your mod, vinegar and baking soda are great cleaning agents (but do not use them together lol, remember the homemade volcanoes that you made in grade school?).

Cleaning your mod and battery is well worth it, for sure. All that grime that accumulates around your mod only lessens the experiences and can even wreck your mod or battery on the long run.

Great post! This is something I've (sadly) never thought of! I'm no germaphobe, but wash my hands regularly- especially if I'm doing rounds and shaking a lot of other hands! I appreciate all the follow up posts about how I can keep the vape parts nice and clean! Gonna stop in my local vape shop and talk with them about it.

I am a bit of a clean freak, so I know exactly where you're coming from. I have a general rule that I'll let my friends puff because I know if they've been sick recently, but everyone else has zero chance of infecting me with whatever random crap they're carrying.

I only let my friends smoke from my vape, about two or three guys. Any more than that and I feel like I should wash my e-cig up and down a few times to not catch a virus, haha.
