STR8V8PING, I'm looking at you!

It occurred to me that it might be possible to make an 18650 VV tube mod along the lines of the Twist. Instead of having the VV circuitry on top near the atty connector you'd put it on the bottom (the battery would go + Down), and instead of a bottom cap you could use a hardcore pot, along the lines of the type used in an electric guitar. That way the entire bottom cap would 'Twist' (see what I'm getting at?).

Now get on it!

I love the idea of essentially an 18650 Twist. If you've ever taken one apart the Twist sure make it look simple enough. I ripped it apart for another piece so I can't remember off the top of my head, but I believe the twist just has a pot glued to the bottom and wires run up the side of the battery to the circuit board. I just need someone to make one in a satin finish for me :)

I like the idea . Ill see if i can work on a design and maybe send it off to the machine shop.I know what i could do for the pot.It would basically have a machined cap over it that twists.

4. Awesome! Remember who gave you the idea. LoL.

5. OK I am going to poop on this parade for one monent and maybe you can think around this.

I personally do not like the idea of a reversed polarity mod. 98% of the batteries exterior is a ground (-). it is all covered by a plastic sheath. If the plastic sheathing were to be torn and in an unlikely circumstance came into contact with a metal sidewall that it connected to the (+) tip of the battery then you have a full on shorted battery dumping a whole bunch of power in a very little amount of time.

Anyway I am not going all rolypoly on you here but I am expressing my concern in the unlikely event of a battery short to the casing.

Seems like that would be pretty easily remedied, Matt. All you need is a thin insulation inside the tube. Hell, a decent anodizing job would probably do it.

I didn't say that it was a hard thing to remedy I just put out my fears of an unlikely mishap.

I like the idea personally I just wanted to make others aware that this kind of thing while not likely could happen.

It's important to point out possible negatives to any new concept, and I (and I'm sure STR8, too) really appreciate it. That's definitely not something I had considered. Hell, I've run batteries upside down in mechanical mods before without knowing that there was the possibility of a hard short like that. Good information to have.

9. Your entirely right and i was doing a little thinking about the design last night and thought the exact same thing. I would not do a positive tube, thats for sure so i would need to change some stuff up to accomplish it.I was writing some stuff down last night and was thinking of having the mid section of the tube twist instead of the bottom so there wont be any wires running up through it and it will be a negative chassis.

Is this idea dead? Just thought I would ask :)
