I have a LM317T adjustable voltage regulator from radio shack that I am using on a computer fan. I am thinking of harvesting it for a vv mod. My question is would this work or should I just plan a madvapes order?

  2. I'd order a better regulator for a battery-based mod. The TI 'Evercool' chip is still the best IMO.

Haven't heard of that one yet. (total noob here) :D Do you have a model you prefer so I can start investigating?

Ptr08100w is the evercool.I used one in a dual 18650 altoids mod,it lasts me about 5 days per charge.10amp limit and 55w!

You could get like 50 lm317 regs for a few bucks so not worth harvesting . With linear regs you also loose a lot of efficiency through heat so they arnt the best imo.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Much appreciated. I do have another question though. I have been looking at the datasheet for evercool chip and noticed it has a min input voltage of 4.5v. Does this mean I will have to stack batteries in order to use this chip? I was hoping to use two batteries in parallel rather than in series.

Yes at 4.5V lower limit you will need to have at the very least that Voltage. You see this regulator in quite a few homebrew setups and batteries in series.
