I ordered a few boxes for mods and one of the ones I got was tiny (2.2 x 1.4 x 0.8) which I was thinking of making a wee little CR123 or 10440 maybe. Got to looking at it and screwing around with what I had in my box and decided the hell with it, it's gonna be a 5V USB Passthrough because we all know I'm too cheap to cough up 20 bucks for something I can make! So yeah, here ya go.

Making a small VV in a translucent and a VV in a completely clear box with a display in the next little bit, look for pics soon. What can I say, I'm a blue guy, can't stand black plastic makes it look cheap.

    Hammond Case
Blue Horn Button (had it in my box)
15' USB cable (hard to come by now but I had one)
    510 Connector
3mm Red LED for Ignite signal

    Total cost: $4

  2. dig up a power supply for a D-link or Linksys router there 5v 2amp or 2.5amp and run the Pass thru with that. I used a few that way.

Eh I just wanted one because it seems like everyone has a 5v passthrough or some kind of addition to their mod that makes it such. Wanted to check out the hype and I have to say it's good for not burning up batteries but I don't see a mass difference except I'm fiddling with a cord more hehe. It's all good though, worth the 4 bucks in case I run my batts down or something.

I enjoy having my pass through for sitting on the couch and watching tv.

  5. If you are powering this via USB ports on your computer you will not see any difference but you will see your USB ports let go of the magic smoke.

USB specs limit the USB ports to 500mA which is .5A

You will screw them up in a hurry. You need a wall wart or power supply rated @ 2A or more to achieve consistent vaping and vapor bliss.

  6. I can understand if you're running LRs and stuff on the passthrough that it could very well exert to much on the USB however aren't all USB passthroughs run through USB off the computer or built to atleast? Like the ones for eGo batts and such? I understand higher amperage is going to give better wattage and bring a atty to a higher potential but even my USB AC adapters I have are .5a.

As far as the eGo it is not 5v it is 3.7 v and the 5V .5A is the current to the charging circuit and not the atty.

Just because it has a USB end on it does not mean it will work right in a computer. These Chinese people do not care if you burn out your Mother Board using their product.

The USB Wall Wart you have is for a charger and not designed to be an actual power source for the atty.

Go look at Vapor Flow Madvapes and the like, these places sell the 5V 2A wall warts for just this reason. Plus with a 15ft USB cable you should be able to maximize the places you can use it.

Yeah that's kinda why I used the monster long cord is it allows access to me to plug it in an outlet and not have to be right next to it. Although I do kinda wish I'd used a mini-USB for the smaller cord as this one is a tad heavy but it's not exactly obnoxious huge.

  9. Well you fellas sure are right about having more amperage being a fairly big deal. I've been using a 3.7v box mod I made for about 6 weeks now and tonight I finally got all the stuff I needed to make my 5v box.

That 5v box with 2 14500's really does roast some juice, gives a lot hotter vapor and a truckload of throat hit compared to the 5v passthrough. May have to look into getting one of those little 2A wall adapters.
