How to get mom to consider vaping?

Well, it's really hard to convince older people to change their habits. Anyway, you have to be persistent when it comes to persuasion.

 

If you find the answer, please let me know! I have tried to bring it up to my dad and my mother in law both. Neither will even listen to a word of it, won't be willing to try even just one puff! I feel so much better now, I wish I could share it with them! Plus, they are getting older and I worry so much about them.

It's almost impossible to convince someone who doesn't want to quit cigarettes to do so.

 

I was also going to make the point about the last generation being closed to change more than this one or the next one is going to be regarding vaping.

That is understandable through as people just simply won't be used to it, and it's that change that people don't like. You could give them cast iron proof that they'll be better off vaping and they'd still carry on smoking!

I think it's being called being set in their ways...

 

If it's chemicals she's worried about then does she have any idea what's really in a cigarette? Maybe give her a full list of ingredients to show her just what she is putting into her body every time she chooses to smoke, and you should find that this is a great way to be able to change her mind about whether she wants to do it or not!

 

I think either people don't realise there's more than just nicotine poisoning the body when smoking a cigarette, or they know but just don't want to admit it.

Vaping might well contain numerous chemicals but like you say, compared to cigarettes it's the healthier of the two.

 

Exactly. Takes time to reverse deep thought patterns and you really gotta understand the person. Sometimes, you just need a salesmen to do it for you, because they are trained to play off of anyone's way of thinking.

 

It not just that, but when it comes about older people, especially when they're your parents, they also have a bit of proud over the fact that they are older, and some of them have the belief that, as you are younger, can't teach them anything new, at least I have find myself and other people more than often into being in this specific situation, when the ultimate argument of a parent would be the fact that "he made us" as he knows better what's best for himself. Your advice with taking a salesman to do it, might actually work, as a parent seems to be more willingly to take advice like this from a stranger than from his or her own child.

 

That's a good tip, we might simply say it's something that will benefit her health, might do the trick...

 

It's a no-brainer when it comes the amount of chemicals. Cigarettes are known to have over 2000 chemicals in them. I don't think they've determined the number of chemicals in vapes, but it is likely far less than cigarettes.

 

As a parent, I think your not going to want to admit that your child might know better than you do, as at the end of the day, you're the one that's supposed to be the one that's listened to.

Maybe the way you tell them is the key to getting them to change? Instead of telling them it's better, show them. Even suggest it but make them think it's their own idea maybe?

 

Maybe persuade her using a detailed pamphlet comparing cigarettes and vaping and the perks the change may bring. It's your mum, I'm pretty sure if you say you care about her she will consider it.

 

I don't believe there is any way you could make them see it's better, maybe only if you find a way to trick them into believing it's their own idea, but again, if you aren't a NLP expert, how would you exactly do that? They can be pretty stubborn sometimes, especially when it comes about a difference of opinion between them and their children.

 

Getting people to think it's their idea rather than another person's isn't that hard, all you have to do us plant that seed if thought in their heads and then leave it there for them to think about.

Granted, with your parents that might be a little harder as they will be wise to your tricks but it's worth at least giving it a go?
