Cigarettes banned in UK for persons born after 2000

You made a good point there, girls can pretty much get away with anything by using make-up, but that is only the fault of the merchandiser who is present there, I remember how I would get asked of my ID even though I was 19 (legal age in my country is 18), and I had friends who were like 15 and they were served without any questions. A person who works in a shop which sells tobacco or alcohol should ask every young person for id regardless it's impressions.

 

I agree, it should be obligatory, but very often store or bar owners are flogged with customers and just want to serve them as quickly as possible.

 

Well, then that simply isn't the problem of the law or the problem of the state for this matter. From that point on, when the necessarily measures aren't taken, it's strictly the problems of that restaurant/bar/shop, and police and other organs like that should take their time, do some controls, and make sure that the law is being respected and applied.

 

I think it would be a good idea in theory, except that you would have to police it properly, because unless there were severe punishments people would still manage to get hold of cigarettes just like they do now when they're underage. Also, I don't think that the government would ever be able to support this type of plan, and that is because of the sheer amount of money that they make from selling cigarettes. They would lose a lot if they stopped selling them so I don't think they would ever change the law for that reason alone.
