Vaping in hospitals might be a taboo for some people because it brings up the cigar in many ways to ignorant people that HAVE NOT tried the vaping themselves and they could think it is just as un-healthy as the cigars themselves but NO, what can you do about this society which is so closed-minded anyways. Depends on the country where you live in though, some countries used to these kind of vapes/hookahs could be used more to them than those who don't reccur to them often.

Vaping in a hospital is something that doesn't make sense and it's easy to make a rule to forbid it, I am not seeing a issue here.

A pregnant women walking through a cloud of smoke probably isn't going to do any damage, but it's just the principle of it for me. If they don't smoke or even more so if they have chosen to stop smoking because they are pregnant, then that's their choice. The last thing they then want is to endure having to walk through a group of smokers all puffing away outside an entrance to the maternity unit, especially when those smokers could smoke 20 foot away, away from everyone and out the way. It's the lack of thought by the smokers that annoys me the most in that circumstance.

Making the rule is easy, the hard part is getting people to abide by it. Smoking or vaping inside the hospital is illegal, and taken to the extreme it can be an arrestable offence, as its forbidden by the law of the land.

Outside the hospital in the grounds, it's not allowed but that's just an hospital policy and not governed by the law. The hospital security can ask you to stop but if you refuse they can't call the police or anything because it's not an actual criminal offence outside, only inside.

I'd definitely imagine people would have problems with others vaping in hospitals. There's a lot of stigma around the usage of vaping devices (even though they've been proven to be generally safe, there's still doubts). I assume that most of the problems with vaping in hospitals would come from the loved ones of an ill patient as they care so much about their family member that they kind of lose track of what is safe and what isn't.

Although as someone said above, I don't see why you'd need to vape in a hospital anyway as it's literally going to be an infrequent visit unless you've got a chronic condition. I'd just say it's respectful to not vape in a hospital due to the stigma and unconfirmed risks.

You're right in your way, but you shouldn't discriminate, I can't see how pregnant women have any more rights than any other woman in a hospital, or for this matter as any other human being. I am also annoyed every time I walk through a cloud of smoke, because I have made an effort to give up in order to not inhale smoke, and inhaling other people's smoke it's exactly that.

I'm not discriminating. What I'm saying is that people used to congregate and smoke at the entrance to the maternity unit at the hospital I used to work at, the only people that used that particular entrance were the pregnant women and their partners.

People shouldn't smoke directly outside any entrance if it affects others, but in this case I think it's even more unacceptable as passive smoking will cause more harm to an unborn baby than what it will to a fully grown adult.

That's true, it's easy to make the rule, but to enforce it it's another issue as most people are not that respectful and the hospital staff many times can't control all of that.

Well, It's definitely wrong to do it inside a hospital but as far as vaping is considered, I just think it's a better alternative to cigarettes now that the government have banned the usage of cigarettes in public places.

That's what I am thinking too, no reason at all to be doing it inside any health care facility really.
If I was stuck in the hospital I would just pick up some other nicotine source, like gum or patches to get me through.

Yeah, no need to be breaking the rules. My dad was in the hospital for one week and he simply didn't smoke during that period.

There are a lot of people that are in hospital for a longer period of time though, and for them, quitting smoking on top of their other illnesses can just add even more stress they have to deal with.

It's not easy telling a 90 year old man that maybe who knows he will never come out of hospital, that he can't even have a cigarette as I'm sure you can imagine.

I personally wouldn't want to be that person to tell him. It can be a good place to quit smoking but it shouldn't be forced onto the person.

It's difficult, and that's why I think the whole subject of smoking and vaping in and around the hospital is difficult. While I'm sure we all agree that people can't just start vaping or smoking in their hospital beds, at the same time providing a smoke room does seem to be fair.

The patients who want to smoke or vape can go in there and they don't have to go outside. It will also stop them from smoking or vaping in the toilets or in stairwells also.

People might have a strong addiction, but that doesn't give them the right to smoke in a hospital, not even vape as far as I see it.

I do understand that, but like I mentioned before, if a person hasn't got long left to live or if there's a relative of somebody who's been in a fatal car crash for example, it's hard to say "you need to stop vaping" as they won't care what you think or want.

I had a neighbor who was like that, it was one of the few pleasures he had left, so he kept on smoking...

Vaping in hospitals is wrong, you shouldn't risk other people even if the effects are minimal. If there's a smoking section, okay, that's fine. Just don't vape in a shared room, it's an asshole thing to do.

Hahaha, thanks for sharing I had a good laugh. I think people in the hospital should start to realize that smoking got them there, and smoking even more will get them even more sick.

lol that's a realistic perspective, but sadly we cannot depend on human understanding as many times we only have selfish desires that hurt us and others.
