Don't carry a spare battery in your pocket! I've heard that some people would just put their battery in their pockets. The problem is, when you put keys with it, the keys might be in contact with both ends of the battery, creating a circuit. This might cause the battery to blow up!

You have to be quite careful with batteries.

The rubbing can really cause small circuits. I remember we player with batteries when we were children, licking them and scaring other kids with the circuit.

Damn, I was even collecting batteries and then destroying them. I didn't realize how dangerous it was to me, actually. Thank God nothing happened.

Thank you for this post! It's actually quite true and not only for keys, even for other stuff we carry in our pockets like coins. Here's an article I found about it:

    http://vaping360.com/vaping-battery-safety-part-1/

You can utilise battery holders or dispose of unusable batteries in proper and designated trash bins. It's better to be safe than sorry since the worst scenario is these batteries might leak or even explode.

Thanks for the advice. Living basically in the desert, I've definitely had the risk of this happening to me, I need to be more aware.

    Thanks for posting that.
I literally have 1.50 in change in one pocket and a spare bat in another.
    Gotta stop that right quick.

I know that a lot of people carry spare batteries with them, but they really shouldn't do this, as it is a dangerous thing to do indeed. If you're going to do it, you should always try to put them in some kind of protective wrapper so that they wouldn't rub again anything else, or each other. You should find that this makes it a lot safer and that you can then carry them without having to worry about having any kind of accident with them.

Thanks for the tip. Actually I knew about this, but some people might not be aware and get into trouble, so nothing like spreading the word in order to avoid issues.

You're welcome! Thankfully, it's good you have read about this post. You can utilise a coin purse although the zipper might trigger the battery as well. Better to just use a battery case since it can protect the batteries from colliding with any other items. Take care and spread the word as well!

Wow, I never even thought about this happening. Such a great tip. I generally keep my spare batteries in a pouch in my purse, but for men, definitely pass the word on to keep batteries anywhere but in your pockets, especially with keys and what not. I'll be sharing this information with friend of mine as well to keep them out of harms way. Thank you for the tip!

It would be an unwise idea to put any spare battery in your pockets. That's why you need a travel battery compartment in order to prevent you from those kinds of things happening.

I am actually kind of surprised that I have not seen a video of anything like this. It feels like in the world that we live in today there is always a video of things like that, and just the other day I saw a skateboard blow up on a news story and thought that was pretty interesting. It is always good to spread a little precaution though, so thank you for that. I would hate to have something explode in my pocket.

Stuff malfunctions all the time in their proper usages, so carrying a battery in the pocket is litereally asking for trouble. If we need an extra battery, nothing like carrying it in the proper place.

It's not the carrying of the spare batteries that's the danger, it's how you carry them that's the issue. If you carry them away from other metal objects then they obviously won't be able to come into contact with them, so I think the lesson here is to just be careful if you do want to carry a spare.

You can use protective wraps or cases that'd come pretty cheap online so they don't come into contact with other things. You could also use antistatic bags that usually come with computer parts (the silver bags)

Whoa, that's pretty crazy but I guess that makes sense depending on how long the keys are in your pocket with your battery. Are we talking about a combustion? Or maybe just a bad reaction that may start a fire?

I thought it was common sense not to carry any sort of battery in your pocket. They can all have issues due to heat, moisture, metals, etc.

Well, it depends. One thing that could happen is that the battery's collision with the keys might cause it to leak. Then if that happens an extreme case would be the battery exploding. However, that doesn't happen that often though. But of course, we'd rather not risk it in any way. Luckily, I have never known anyone personally who has gotten batteries that exploded or leaked.

Yep, that's the same case with me, I don't know anyone that had that issue, but I also don't know anyone who walks around carrying batteries in their pockets. Better safe than sorry!
