Having a lot of money at that age might very well not be at the top of your list of priorities, but I'd rather be sat there with that amount of money in the bank, than know I've given it all away through the years to the tobacco companies.

Absolutely, can you imagine if we could get every last bit of money back and just see it there in front of us? If you had to pay that much for 1 cigarette that had all of the bad effects right there on the spot, you'd have never had one in the first place. The only way it makes sense to do it to yourself is because it happens over time.

Quite true! If you've quit cigarettes, then you might as well quit alcohol. Although for my husband, he has quit alcohol for a few weeks now but still cannot quit cigarettes. He still cannot find ways of doing so, even vaping and quitting cold turkey won't work for him.

Anyway, it's just a bit sad because the money he uses on smoking cigarettes? We could really use that! He also doesn't want to commute to school which can also save us tons of money, lol. Evidently, we cannot push someone to quit, it has to be from their own will.

Huh, just thinking about all those supposed savings gets me sad...

The savings are huge from what I was told. If you take care of your pipe and not burn it up, you will save on that as well. If you mistreat it in anyway, you will end up buy pipes all the time, and you'll basically be back to square one as far as monthly spending's. Just take care of your pipe and don't sit on it when you have it in your back picket. All of my friends do that and over time, end up having to buy new ones sooner then later.

Cold turkey doesn't work for everyone, even though the so called experts say it's the best way.

In the past I've had some success with cutting down gradually over a period of time, so maybe that's something he can try?

Thank you for sharing the good news, @rz3300!

My main intention to switch to vaping was primarily because of health reason. But when I found out later on just how much I was actually saving, that motivated me even more. So I can totally relate to how happy you must be feeling. Wonderful news indeed!

As you say yourself, there's many reasons to quit smoking and start vaping and I think when people are smoking they aren't actually aware at how much they're spending.

For a lot of people the cost of the cigarettes gets factored into the grocery budget so isn't actually a separate expense. It's only when you sit down and analysed it, you realise just how much you are spending!

Yeah, I'd say the most dangerous aspect of smoking is doing it while you have a steady income. At least when you're broke, you can see how significant the money is in context of necessities, and necessities usually aren't trying to give you lung cancer and gross teeth. Those damn cancer sticks

You're definitely right. Not only is vaping a considerably more healthy alternative to smoking, it's easier on the budget as well.

Yeah, he have tried that as well. Unfortunately, he only got to a week of gradually reducing his cigarettes until the next week, where we're back to a pack a day. Oh, he also quit cold turkey for about three days because his coughs were unbearable. But after that, he's back on the cigarettes as well. I hope he's not a lost case but it seems like he is...

Yes you can save hundreds of dollars a year switching from cigarettes to vaping. There is so, so much tax levied on cigarettes that it is no joke. Rather than replacing the whole joint, you can just replace the juice in a vaper most of the time and that was way cheaper than a couple packs of cigarettes a week.

I also saved a lot of money since I stopped smoking. In one year, you can save about $1200. Wow! that's fantastic. We can now invest the saved money for better use. The money really adds up. Along with saving a lot of money, it has also numerous health benefits that we can experience and that also saves a lot of money (since we don't have to spend money on doctors)! :D

I think with a lot of governments around the world looking closer at vaping than ever before, the fear is that soon the tax on vaping will be the same as on cigarettes. Then people will only see vaping as being beneficial to their health, rather than like it is at the moment and beneficial to their pockets aswell.

Well, that's great news, but unless you put those money aside, you're just having a debt reductor, which reduces your costs, but doesn't give you actual money. For example, you save 100$, but actually you spend them on fast-food or anything else, then, that works as a debt reductor. If after the end of the month you end up with that 100$ in your pocket, then you really saved them.

    Excellent point.
I actually have a "smoke budget." This is about $50 dollars a week and I set it when I started smoking cigarettes. I kept the same budget, but I take whats leftover at the end of the week now that I vape and I transfer it to a savings account.
This way I am not tempted to spend it on pizza or beer or junk like that.
After about 16 months on just the vap, I have about $875 bucks in there!

Cigarettes are $12 a pack where I live. A pack a day would cost you $360. It totals $4,320 a year. Cigarettes are just horrible all-around.

That really does add up! I'm trying to get my boyfriend to switch because he's back up to a pack a day after coming down to less than 3 cigarettes every day. Convincing him to switch is a hassle, though.

Or even if you can't save the money you would have spent on cigarettes, at least spend it on something worthwhile so at the end of the month you have something to show for your efforts.

Good to hear! I remember when I quit smoking to vaping. I was saving like $150 a month. Now I spend that extra $150 on vaping equipment.

Wow, so someone actually did that thing and kept a special smoking budget, set the money aside. I think I'd have well over a thousand if I had set them aside in a smoking budget or something, but I simply preferred to go and have a fast food meal, or go to the cinema out of those money, it made me feel better and realize the economic benefits of not smoking.
