Short circuit protection on a mechanical mod

I use a lot of rebuildable tanks and addys. Any way to add protection to a bolt or other device? Or am I just getting some extra protected batteries, just in case?

protected batteries and dont go too low ohm on the Bolt as i dont think the button in those can handle it
