A couple of days ago, a friend and I were talking about the problems that we had when we first started vaping.

He said that his issues with vaping in the beginning stemmed from the fact that he was steered towards "weird candy, drink, or fruity flavors" and discouraged from vaping tobacco flavors; which he loves. He smoked while vaping because he missed the tobacco flavor.

On the other hand, I was encouraged to try tobacco flavors and found them disappointing since none of the tobacco juices tasted like a cigarette.

He argues that beginners should be encouraged to vape tobacco flavors, but I argue that tobacco flavors are discouraging and make me miss cigarettes even more.

I'm curious to see if tobacco flavors actually help people switch from cigarettes to vaping, or if non-tobacco flavors helped more people switch.

What flavor(s) helped you to kick the habit?

Honestly for me, after trying a dozen or so different tobacco flavors from a dozen or so different vendors I have given up trying to replicate the taste of a cigarette. I think newbies should be steered away from even trying tobacco e juice because it seems that vaporized e liquid just can't accurately simulate the taste of burning tobacco leaves (plus 101 different chemicals)

I have a vape with tobacco flavour and it is surprisingly similar to the real thing, obviously without the horrible burnt taste of tobacco leaf. I would much rather taste that anyday. As for other flavours, I think it promotes the idea of it being recreational and can cause overuse of the vape. That is the main reason why I avoid energy drink etc flavours as they taste really nice and I just end up sitting there constantly puffing on it.

@untitled @ciaran071198 It seems a little misleading to say that ejuice will taste like a burnt cigarette, doesn't it?

Honestly, I wouldn't know what tobacco tastes like without it being burnt. I enjoy complex tobacco flavors like RY4 and 555 because I'm not expecting them to taste like a cigarette. After my initial experience with tobacco flavors, I tend to avoid juices that are meant to mimic cigarettes because they just don't.

There was this one guy at a local bricks and mortar shop that I used to visit who told me that their "Pall-Mall" type ejuice tasted like a real Pall Mall. I was vaping a sample tank of that ejuice when he told me, and ended up snorting my cloud in his face (good thing it was 0mg juice). I asked how long it had been since he had a Pall Mall, and he stuttered a bit. Then I told him, in the middle of the store, that I had smoked a Pall Mall just before I came in and the ejuice that he was peddling as a Pall-Mall -alike juice did not taste anything like a Pall Mall, or any cigarette that I had smoked for that matter.

Things got really interesting when other new vapers decided to give it a try, and formed the same conclusion. I visited the store a couple of times after that, but got a chilly reception on those occasions. After a visiting some other local stores, I decided that buying online was probably in my best interest because it's not a good idea to upset the person who is mixing your ejuice; especially when I can't keep my mouth shut about misleading juice names.

I smoked menthol cigarettes for years, so I naturally chose a menthol juice to start. I wish I hadn't. I like the minty taste, but that's just it. It tastes nothing like a menthol. So I mentally tell myself that it's peppermint, and it helps. I have had fruit flavors in the past and they worked out so much better. I was able to drop the nicotine level to .6%, and then my original set up broke, and I just went back to cigarettes. So here's round 2, and I have already put in an order for wholesale tank replacements so I can enjoy multiple flavors. I would definitely stay away from tobacco flavor since it won't taste the same. Try something with a flavor of some sort. Maybe not even a fruit, but something like vanilla, or chocolate (I hear it's delicious). Blueberry did it for me. I was hooked from the get go. :)

I understand your struggle all to well. My first setup was atrocious, plus the ejuice vendor I was buying from changed many of their recipes. Most of my favorites were changed and I ended up not liking them. I just kind of said, "screw this" and went back to smoking.

I've been through several ejuice vendors trying to find a decent chocolate vape; hopefully this new shipment that I got doesn't taste like chocolate-flavored chemicals since I love chocolate. Funny you should mention it, but coffee and blueberry are among my favorite vapes.

Now that we've learned some lessons from our past mistakes, and are wiser because of them, maybe we can be more successful this time around.

Being really picky about what I smoke, I deliberately avoided anything that was supposed to taste like tobacco. I know myself well enough to know that I would probably form a negative opinion about it no matter what it tasted like. I think the problem with the tobacco ones is that we are more likely to expect them to simulate a real smoking experience, and can get disappointed when they don't. I started off with the more exotic flavours, as I didn't want to end up disappointed. If I have no previous expectations of what something is supposed to taste like, I am more likely to accept it, and be less judgemental.

I don't think it's only the taste that's different, the fact that you don't get to the end of your cigarette and have to put it out is probably the most confusing for me. I haven't tried true tobacco flavors but then again I am only starting now. I don't know if I will be tempted to do so in the future. The whole idea is to move away from cigarettes so why would you vape something that tastes like them.

Well, there are tobacco flavours available in the market with different saturation levels but I would not recommend you the flavour with the highest saturation as the effect of the flavour can be as bad as real tobacco. Though, you can try the tobacco flavour with the least saturation level as it would be safe. :)

Tobacco flavor is a really good idea for those aiming for continuity and those who want a change have a wide variety of flavors, that is why vaping is great.

If you try to quit smoking I don't recommend you do that. That's pretty much easy to understand why. By doing that you will remind yourself of a tobacco you try to get rid of. That's gonna lead you nowhere.

This is insightful. I actually have not tried tobacco e-juice ever in my life. No one has actually recomended it to me so I reckon that is why I have not been steered to try it out.

But since most of the comments in this thread strongly feel that tobacco e-juice flavors are better left alone, I will gladly do so, and plus I am mostly new to this interesting and widely varied "vaping" world: I do not have that much experience so I will take the advice of the most experienced ones...

I have never owned a tobacco juice bottle. I always vape fruit flavors, and I am currently trying to find a honey flavor. Tobacco flavor isn't necessarily going to help you kick the habit, unless you really love the taste, which I doubt. Most smokers I met were bored of it and got excited while vaping because of the new flavors.

If I'm being honest, I think it's better to try and go for different flavours as this means that you would stop having the taste for tobacco, and this might help you to give up more effectively in the long term. Also, the fruit flavours (just as an example) are much nicer to smell than the others, meaning that you should be more pleasant to be around - even as a smoker I know that I probably didn't smell all that nice most of the time! But in general I would want to stay away from smelling of tobacco now, so wouldn't want to go for those flavours.

Interesting answers. I am not a big fan of fruit flavors, and I do like RY4 flavors which are considered tobacco flavors, but don't taste like tobacco. I'm guessing that the tobacco in them provides a slight smoky flavor that works well with the sweet flavors.

I go for dessert and coffee flavors myself. They seem to help curb my sweet tooth that gets worse when I quit smoking.

You might have a point here, at the same time it can also depend on the person. Some might be happy with a similar feel while others might prefer something entirely different.

I think your right, I know when I did the transition it was difficult at first and the last thing I wanted was something that reminded me of cigarettes. The best thing to do is get something that doesn't taste remotely like tobacco but has nicotine.

I've only been vaping for a few months now after smoking cigarettes for over 20 years, and I started off with tobacco flavours but I still had the odd cigarette as they still didn't extinguish my craving for that taste.

I've since changed to different flavours but I think everyone is going to be different on this one, and it's just a matter of people trying different things to see what works best for them.

Um, I would say no. My reasoning is simply because one of the biggest perks of the vape is that you can get new flavors, and a tobacco flavor has the highest chance of helping them slip back into bad habits

Yeah, that can happen, but I am glad that the flavor is available. It would be interesting to know how much it sells, if there are any people looking for that specific flavor.
