Okay so I am planning on building my first vv mod and im trying to decide on which regulator bored to get I have seen the DNA 20 and the Nivel chip I would like a board with buttons instead of the dial type pot switch I don't like the idea of having to carry a screwdriver with me to change my voltage I am looking for y'alls thoughts on the DNA 20 and Nivel chip and also are there any other options along the same lines that do the job that are easier on the pocketbook

The DNA 20 is a tough build because the only standard batts which can *almost* support it's power requirements are the panny gcr's - better to go with a Li-ion battery pack and bt the time you're there your talking serious money.
Look through xxDZNutzxx's threads. He has some good advice on the various chips. The power regulator he uses (I've just been vaping on one of his 50watt tin mods) is an OKR which is like 5 or 10 bucks. He uses it with a little thumb wheel pot which works great and requires no screwdrivers. Go take a look at the innards and specs of some of his in the sneak peek thread -you'll get some cool ideas.

Well IMO the pot is the last ting you should be looking at, yes while a pain to "adjust" defiantly not the weakest link in your mod.

The real questions are:

How many bells and whistles you are looking for?
Can a VV mod be made cheaper and out perform both the DNA and Nivel chips? oh god yes
Is it more work to build? yes
Is it worth it in the end? again back to question one

There are chips in the community that put both those chips to shame, do they have the cool displays? No

I have used the DNA while not bad can still be outperformed, I have no experience with the nivel chip but the data sheets between that and the dna are not that far apart :)

Remember this is just MO and everyone is different.

Hey when you give your opinion on this topic anyone in their right mind should pay attention. It's like DocDave talking about what makes a good Genny and then saying just MO

As far as bells and whistles go I am mainly worried about voltage display ohms would be nice but not a necessity I could learn to like a pot switch if I did not have to use a screwdriver I'm not looking for something incredibly difficult to build either but I am fairly handy so I could deal with a little bit of difficulty your recommendations would be much appreciated thanks Brent

Julie well said we are so fortunate to have xxDznutzxx here. He is always willing to assist members and answer their modding questions.

Not to mention he makes those AWESOME tin mods. I own a DZ tin and a Provari and if I had to choose between them I would choose my DZ Altoid tin.

Yup, I've been rocking my baby tin with an RSST all evening.....love it. Knowing it was made specially for me - it couldn't be pried away from me. Woodsboy DZ'll get you on a great path his mods all have voltage display, and a bunch of good to have safety features which will prevent your mod from blowing up in your hand. He's a nice guy so you can quiz him and he'll give ya good advice ;)

If your set on having a display, I would suggest using the Z-Max PCB. They are harder to find but IMO much easier for the novice to work with.

Can you buy the zmax pcb commercially or do you have to get it out of a broken device.

I have seen them for sale on vendors site, I don't remember off hand where but will see what I can find.

eta: After a quick search this was the only place I could find right now http://ecigmodshop.com.au/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=482 unfortunatly they are in Australia so shipping will be high. Like I said they are harder to find.

Everyone thinks voltage displays are so necessary but, if you have a knob or wheel that gives you some clue where you are, they really serve no purpose. The numbers don't count for much. All that actually matters is taste and feel. Knob position will tell you whether you're way off normal so you know when something might need attention. If you're curious, just use an inline meter. You aren't likely to be curious often enough to justify having a meter full time. If you use the numbers to tell you where it should be rather than taste and feel, you won't be getting the best vape.

I went from the madvapes VV box to the buzz pro. So glad I never let numbers tell me where to vape. :)

Well with a slide switch you can have the best of both worlds, vaping volts and battery volts.

I used 2 tacts instead of a slide switch fro the reading of volts.

I do agree with it is not necessary to have a display but if you are going to build a mod then why not toss a few more bucks for a display? heck I dont use mine all the time but it is nice to have :D

As far as the pcb what would you suggest I like all the features of the PTR08100W but from what I understand the board is not come ready for installation in other words some assembly required lol I am NOT necessarily worried about the assembly the part that intimidates me a little bit is the what to get and where to put it in relation to the board if I could find a parts list and simple to read wiring diagram I would be golden but I am NOT set on that PCB by any means
