Just a couple of questions I thought I would throw out there before proceeding further.

Has anybody ever pulled one of the Twists or Spinners to pieces?? I am contemplating using the circuits in a pipe, as I think they would be small enough to fit, and It would be a cheap way to get a variable voltage set up for the pipe.

I have never owned one of these things, so any thoughts or pointers to any links to dissemble. Prime question is where the voltage boost occurs? Is it the twisty end or the switch end via a rheostat in the twisty end??? Early days yet!!!

Robray, I've got a non-working Joytech 1000mah Twist that I'm happy to send you for research :)

Best Youtube (specific to Twists) is:

Also got a 1000mAh Twist that fires by itself but ya aint getting the Spinner ;)

Sounds like a cool project Robray!

I think epipemods did a vv pipe using a twist?

Edit: Just remembered it was an eGo Booster Epipemids used as reviewed here by Scott:

Thanks for the info people. Looking at the image the board is not as I imagined it, and certainly too big for my pipe project. It looks like it may be the go for the basis of a box mod though?? On the back burner for now. Come to a stop on my claw pipe project as I have to bite the bullet and drill a hole in the pipe bowl. I have a couple of options, but if it goes wrong the job is screwed!!! Some more thought needed!!

Thanks for the offer tetsky, Needs some more thought before I commit.

I guess I should have watched the video before jumping to the conclusion that the long circuit board in the image, was the boost board for the twist. Its not!!! It looks like the little switch board has the boost on board, so should be easy to fit in the pipe. Has anybody had the end off?? If so what is there. Hopefully its just a variable resistor??

Hey thanks for that. Looks like it might be worth a try then. Figure out a way to mount the pot. Maybe in the top plate. Still thinkin!!!

Just got back from visiting Mr tetsky. First ran into his good lady who pointed me to his location. Lovely lady, and obviously VERY understanding!!!

Thanks for the welcome Jose, and the dead twists. They will soon come under the knife, just as soon as I ingest some anesthetic.

Again Thanks so much for taking the trouble.

Ok, suitably anesthetized (Me) and the first twist goes under the knife.

First tried the five press trick in the hope it was turned off. No such luck. Then tried it on the charger. No such luck. Couple or three flashing lights, but not accepting the charge.

Out to the vice and a small amount of wiggle, and the top battery and switch came free.

Very gently eased the circuit board away from the battery, and at that point the .comlt became obvious. The black earth lead had separated from the circuit board. It would have been a matter of another whiskey and a hot soldering iron to effect a repair.

Repairing was not on the agenda, as I was looking for the component parts, and to find out how the thing was assembled. Next trick was to keep going and remove the battery from the tube. Rather than pull on the wires, I have some pokey scissor brain surgery things that will reach down into the tube and gently get a hold of the battery.

Eased the battery out, but the positive wire from the board was the limiting factor. It had to be cut, or unsoldered from the battery. I chose unsoldering. Just a little touch and it was free. The battery slid from the tube. Put a multimeter across and it revealed a full charge, so that was good.

This left the circuit board connected to the tube by two yellow wires. These are the connections back to the variable resistor at the bottom of the tube. Unsolder or cut?? For this one I decided to cut, as I am too stupid to remember the correct connections on the board. This way at least I have a chance!!!!!

Ok, next off was to try and figure out how to get the variable thingy from the tube.

The end piece just clicks off with a little persuasion from a craft knife and mini screw driver. Once this is off, the the rest of the unit can be removed by gently pulling the yellow wires and removing the plastic carrier from the other end of the tube.

I am just going to connect everything up outside the tube, just to confirm I haven't screwed anything up. Its just a shame my photographic skills are not as mature as my drinking skills. Sorry for the crap images
