28 Awg Kanthal

So what's the deal with 28 awg? Seems like everybody is using it these days. Is it better for twisted coils? Fill me in please peoples.

So a 4 wrap coil would be under 1 ohm

 

depends on the size of your wick, but yer more than likely.

personally i find it WAY too annoying, but that's just me. I've used 30awg and that's worked well. more wraps less resistance

 

9/10 wrap would be about 1.8ohm. I personally find it too hard to achieve this. Despite the fact I bought 200ft of it

 

From the spec sheet I have, 28AWG is 5.27Ω per foot whereas 32AWG is 13.1Ω per foot, so roughly you'd need 2 and a bit times the number of turns to get the same resistance (using the same diameter wick of course).

 

Fair enough, I like my coils around 2.4 ohm so I won't go there Cheers.

 

You're better off with 30AWG or 32AWG then.

30G on a AGA-T is great 5/6 or 6/7 wrap for around 2ohms coil lasts longer than 32G does be.comse it is thicker wire.
28G I have only used on the AGA(unmodded thinner wick hole) & I needed about 11 wraps to get a 2ohm coil, due to the thickness of the 28G that made it a very difficult proposition but once done, the coil lasted for about 4weeks before finally popping.
