    Hi People

I have been struggling with my eyes for some time. Nothing serious, just age related degeneration. I think a lot of people have the same issues. It seems the arms are suddenly not long enough to be able to focus on the book or newspapers. Get your eyes tested was the wife’s mantra, when I couldn’t focus on the small print. (Headlines, front page of the newspaper)

Anyway, I did, and I have had glasses for a couple of years now. I don’t mind them, as I believe they convey an air of intelligence . I am always looking at women with glasses. It’s a lot easier now I have a pair. Don’t need to stare as long when trying to read the “T” shirts with the small print spread between the nipples.

Ok, glasses are fine for day to day operations. They are not good when trying to solder wires to the little circuit boards that are associated with e cigs. I have tried all the cheap options for the vision challenged. Magnifying widgets, clamps around the head with lenses,Jewelers loupes, etc. All have their uses, but not very satisfactory for small intricate soldering work. The focal length is just too short and I have come close to burning my nose with the soldering iron a couple of times.

China and ebay to the rescue.

These things are good and the focal length is long enough that you don’t have to crouch over the work. You can sit up straight. They come in various working distances and magnification. Mine have a focal length of 350mm and a magnification of 3.5. Good for me.

Just do a search for dentist loupe and there is plenty of choice on ebay. Well worth the money if you like messing with small stuff.

    hahahaha

    With a 510 vibrator attachment!

On that note, even though my eyesight is pretty good, was thinking of grabbing something like this to assist in coil making

Pleasure oneself with vibrator attachment (for the females....) then you can just unscrew it and put on your other weapon of choice and vape away!

Could be a good way to get my missus onto ecig's hehehe

    urm uhm, back on track!

For me well worth the outlay. Only issue is buying this sort of gear sight unseen. No touchy feely try out thing?? Its hard to decide the magnification and focal length you need. Wife said I looked stupid measuring the distance from my eyes to the work area. Anyway worked for me.

    I got 3.5 X

Just seen further down you are asking about the eye measurement thing? You need to establish the comfortable working distance between the work piece and your eyes. The range is fairly tight as they go out of focus within a fairly short range, either closer or further away.

Wiki explains it better than me

Yes they will do the job. The focal length of those is 420mm. The price is very good. I paid $130. If you wear glasses, you will be better off with a clip on set. They will swivel up and you will still have your own glasses. to see where you left the solder!!

I know it sounds pedantic, but do the tape measure thing, and get the range that suites you. 420mm is too much for me, sat at the work bench

Its a problem buying stuff like this on the net. You have no idea if it will be fit for purpose. The whole thing is a guesstimate. I did take the time to do the measuring thing and decided based on that and the offered specifications.

There certainly a learning curve when starting to use them. The field of vision is certainly limited to the immediate work area. In my case its around a 70mm square area. Certainly enough for the work at hand.

Glad to be of service. For me they are a handy piece of kit I just wound a coil on one of those new rebuildable thingies,

Made it so easy. I can throw my white stick away now, but will keep the guide dog!!!!
