    hi all.

Heres a USB powered atomiser mod I constructed.
Mainly from bits I had around, but I guess this could be made for under $10 if you had a dead battery to get the connector from.
I forgot to document the construction process but heres a few pics of the device. If anyone wants to make one I guess I can write out instructions.
I used an omron microswitch, ego-t battery connector, a led with current limiting resistor (unsure of value now) and an broken iPhone charger cable. The big black box is a portable USB charger I built (uses 18650 batteries for the curious)

I see its plugged into an external hub. good .comse not keen on these things tbh, USB spec is max 500mA, the original spec was that a device requests the current, the USB port monitored it and then cut ff the power if the requested current was exceeded.
This cost too much, so some motherboard manufacturers just connect the 5v straight to the USB via a track on the PCB.
I helped with the tech side of internet kiosks in the supermarkets, people would come along for .comghs and plug a short circuit in, took out over 50 computers across sydney and a couple .comght fire when they changed to cheap motherboards.
So the max a USB should be asked to provide by a 'dumb' device is 500mA at 5v, thats 2.5 W and not enough to vape with, better to use a constant current to charge a battery with and vape off the battery,
its called an ego PT .. I would rather spend the $20 than risk blowing up a computer or a hub even.

Nearly all motherboards include an.comtomatically resetting fuse, so your $5 USB fan doesnt take out your $1000 computer when it draws over 1amp. I dont see how a USB port shorting out can .comse a fire, Fire is not impossible i guess but extremely unlikley. just burnt pcb traces, in the case of usb ports these would be thinner than the atomiser wire

in personal experience, most host controllers theser days will hand out 1000mA without handshaking, to accomodate for 'novelty' devices like those usb coffee warmers, fans and the like

I should have made it clear that this mod is designed to be plugged into USB ports capable of an output of 1000mA.

Thanks for the comment, I'll look into the ego PV. I guess I used USB be.comse its convenient. the device you see it plugged into is a portable charger I built which outputs 5v regulated and can supply over 15000mA (15amps) per port

For more information about the USB standard :

    wikipedia quote:

    Signal 5 volt DC
    Max. voltage 5 V(±5%)
Max. current 500–900 mA @ 5 V (depending on version)
    5A for Battery Charging devices

the spec can be up to 5amps!!!!!
If you were to plug this into a modern computer and try to use it, It either works or wont work, no harm no foul, ive tried it on my desktop, laptop and tablet. Works on both PCs but not the tablet. However the tablet didnt catch fire and im using it now. Laptop is brand new and desktop is 3 years old. It all depends if the usb host controller chip can supply 1000ma without handshaking. If the PC was made after say 2003 then it will most likely work.
