Hey, was reading this last night about a guy who uses "Ambroid ProWeld for Styrene, Butyrate, ABS, and Acrylic (Lucite or Plexiglas)" to fix cracks in the Vision stardusts.

Love the stardusts but every single one I have are starting to crack around the bottom, not from juice, probably dry burning and the metal expanding I guess... nail polish has fixed them temporarily but a couple that have had the nail polish treatment are starting to leak again.. cracks getting longer. I know they're cheap, but well.. so am I!

have any of you lot tried something similar? Does it work well? Can't find the "Ambroid ProWeld" anywhere on any canuk sites (though it can be imported, see some on ebay etc) but have found a couple of similar sounding things on.coms sites that sell hobby/model stuff. What you reckon?

Funny you should bring this up?? All my stuff is ce2 type gear. Recently started on the Vision gear including the Stardust. Thinking ahead with regard to the cracking issue, I purchased a couple of tubes of PVC cement used to glue plastic aircraft models together. It seems to be pretty much the same stuff. I dont have any cracks yet but I am itching to try it out!!! I cant remember how much the tubes cost me, but I do know they were cheap. Don't want to go expensive to repair these!!!

I can tell you, clear nail polish works as a temporary measure, and Bunnings don't stock plastic weld.

Post here if you discover where to get it! eBay has it but not the food safe variety they talk about.

Bunnings stock a similar stuff used for joining PVC pipe. I know the same stuff is used for potable water pipe repairs. Once the stuff has cured and all the solvent has evaporated it will be fine. Only down side I can see is that it comes in silly colors!!! Its worth looking at Acetone, which is the main solvent In Nail Polish and nail polish remover. As the poster on ECF says, the solvent should be carried into the cracks by capillary action and make the joint, by softening the plastic enough so the two sides bond. Just my theory? Shame I have no cracks to play with!!!
