Still under construction, taking my time doing bits here and there... I couldn't wait for my MadVapes order to arrive so found some relatively cheap parts from Jaycar. I've only just started on the internal work but I think it's coming along nicely fun stuff! View attachment 1303 View attachment 1304 It has a 10ml juice bottle and will run on a single 18650 battery. No LED light as of yet since I don't have a suitable resistor (Jaycar has such limited range) I only wish I had a better way to hold it closed tight than 2 screws, easier access to the battery and juice bottle would be nice. In the future I'd like to put a mini usb port on it for charging / passthrough and perhaps a 3 position slide switch for 3.7v/off/5v and maybe some kind of battery charge indicator. I don't know if there's enough room inside the 90x54x24 instrument enclosure for that. Haven't worked out what to use for a juice well yet, I might make a drip shield a permanent fixture instead since the 510 connector sticks up far enough to use a 510 atty w/o adapter. The only part I'm really worried about getting away with is soldering the centre post of the 510 connector. lol if it's a bit messy I can clean it up with a hobby knife no doubt as long as it actually sticks and doesn't short on the outer portion of it of course.
That does look good. With ordinary, as in 2AA, box mods I use a panel pin with the head sanded down. It protrudes past the skirt of the 510 connector and I solder the + wire connection to the pin. Rough as guts, but it has worked on 3 so far, the carto or atty keeps the pin in place. Of course you have to keep the centre hole open for juice, so that would not work on your mod. I ruined one 510 connector by heating too much, and frying the insulation. Someone with more skills will have advice. Regards KK
most of the 510 battery connectors I've seen can be pushed apart (ie. you can push the centre connector out It's held in place by a silicone ring) just take note of which end goes in where so you dont try and put it back upside down. they're pretty easy to push out and reseat. hope this helps D1g
I think the fact that it is a bottom feeder makes the centre connection more frustrating. I know on connectors I've soldered the centre was the harder of the two. Solder just doesn't seem to want to stick to the surface of the connectors I've purchased in the past. Maybe I've been doing something wrong - I'm not the most skilled with an iron!
Nice one, been meaning to make one of these myself.. Still haven't gotten to try a bottom feeder yet. When I was going to make one of these I ended up ordering the 510 connectors with the sealed base. Found out that you could pop the base out as D1git was saying and then found an old atty which had the hole through the middle; popped this out from the bottom and it came out with about a centimeter of wire on the end that goes into the atty, snipped that then placed it upside down (going in from the top of the 510 connector) into the 510 connector so now I have a 510 connector with the hole for bottom feeding plus that little piece of pre-soldered wire sticking down for the center connector ready to go.. Then I got slack and put it back in the cupboard.. =P

Shops in Darwin carry very limited range so to find the right kind of parts I'd need to order online pretty much. Jaycar and Bunnings is about all I have access to locally but I keep my eyes peeled for bits in odd places like the dollar store and the tip shop and other places. I'm sure I'll devise some sort of spring clip or something to fasten the box closed. Don't want to much about with screws every time i need to change the battery or fill the bottle! screws aren't the most convenient and at one corner it wants to spread a little, i'll refine it more yet
alas my shonky soldering job, the negative wire popped loose from the atty connector and decided to come to a rest up against the positive wire. This resulted in a red hot glowing battery spring when I tried to fire it. I knew I smelled burning plastic somewhere lol who knew a battery spring could get glowing red hot in 1 second? I clearly need to learn how to solder better lol
and thats one of the ways to short a battery .. as we are discussing this type of failure on the battery explosion thread.
