    Am I a tight wad? probably...Do I like a challenge? definately!

So when I was dry burning the clearo from one of my tanks and the coil went open cct I wondered whether these clearos could be repaired. I pulled the remains of the coil and the black wires out clear of the ceramic and cut the remaining nichrome from the black wires. Tried torching the wick to clean it up but it was brittle where the coil was wrapped so I cut it in half, doubled the 2 strands and wound 5 turns of 34g nichrome around them. Then stripped the black wires about 3mm and made a very small loop in the end of each. Fed the nichrome coil ends through these loops and folded them back, Trimmed off the excess bits of wire and soldered. Pulled and pushed the coil wick assembly back into ceramic and reassembled the tank. Works as well or better than before.

and I've thrown a few of them out of late. But then. I don't have any nichrome or lead free solder. Still. Cool that you can fix em. Not much too them really.

Would it matter if it were lead free solder or not? I mean, is it going to leech into your juice when set?

    Cheers,

    Arkay.

I've been using lead-free solder for a few years now....not sure I'd want leaded solder in contact with my juice

  8. Very nice Johnny! :D Have you tried it with the SS mesh, I'm interested in making something similar!

I've almost given up on the SS mesh where it's in contact with a coil as they short at the slightest provocation. Makes a good filling material though

A bit OT but I'm waiting on chargers (9V power supplies) and hope to have them next week. Currently have one sample of the rounded woody (2x2600mAH 18650), one mid (2x1000mAh LiPo) and one mini (2x850mAh LiPo). Hoping to have about 10 rounded woody enclosures in a couple of weeks, these will be from a variety of hardwoods.
