DIY juice mixing with ultrasonic cleaner steeping

So what's peoples opinions on using glass?

Should all mixing/steeping/storage be in glass or are the 3-60ml plastic bottles OK for this?

 

I tend to mix and steep in 30ml glass bottles but then they get shifted to plastic for ease of filling. I don't like mucking about with syringes for filling devices, but thats me.

 

I've read somewhere that if you have a juice that's prone to cracking tanks, you might want to keep that in a glass bottle. Unless you vape it so fast that it's not sitting around for a few months!

 

Also as the temp gets pretty high in the usc, it might change the shape of plastic bottles, and the water might get inside. Glass is the way to go, as they have abit of weight to it and it sits nicely on the bottom.

 

I just got 100 amber glass bottles today. Most of my bottles to date are plastic, but my plan is to slowly get rid of the plastic in favour of glass. They were pretty cheap at .50c each, but the catch is that they don't come with a lid. I'm on the look out for cheap glass eye droppers to fit a 20mm bottle top, if anyone sees any on their travels. I'm keen to find out if the plastic or glass is better in the ultrasonic cleaner. The plastic goes fine, but it does say that using the plastic basket in the cleaner will reduce the effectiveness by 50%. Not sure if that will be the same or different (better or worse) using glass instead of plastic.

 

I use glass, and when I do, my 50ml bottles dont fit in the USC so I leave the lid open. My USC can go up to 90 degrees if I use hot water and leave it for an hour. So definitley glass. And they dont retain smell the way plastic does.

ok, after making my 'paradise' juice steeped with USC 4 hours, it turned a dark yellow. 2nd batch making for beano, as i didnt have time, i steeped for 1 hour, and it was still clear. Yesterday at the vape meet catching up to beano, after a week or two giving him the juice, it had turned dark yellow. So, USC does turn color as well. Steeped 4 hours = 1 or 2 weeks of steeping (cant remember when i gave beano the juice)

as someone new to mixing, i won't be getting a USC anytime soon but when my mixing develops i think it'll be a must. I think i'd use the cold water as it heats up itself over time and the shaking should supply enough energy to the molecules to speed up reaction times. maybe i'll give it 2 days of airing to compensate for the heat i'll be removing from the reaction.

Also i think i'll be switching to class bottles with lids soon too...still mixing in plastic 30ml bottles for now. my reasoning for my proposed change is plastic often retains some of the smell of the previous juice, and the amber bottles protect from light. in the meantime i'm steeping over a two week period with a lil air getting in with the dripper nozzle on the bottles and shaking every few days. so far mixing 4x30ml bottles at a time, reducing nic by 1mg each mix, labeling well (flavour, mg, date).

please feel free to correct the logic of this mega noob.

I have been DiY mixing for 2.5yrs & not once have I seen a need to use an USC or to speed steep my juice.
Heat does not only speed the steeping process but also speeds up the degradation of the nic in your juice.
Ok if you vape the entire bottle in a short time this isn't a problem, the degradation will be insignificant but if you mix up some juice & have plenty of other juice to get through too, then forget about the stuff you just mixed for 6 months or more, it may lose enough nic that you can feel it doesn't have the same kick.

Anyway, I am quite happy allowing my juice to steep naturally & if I need to I vape it without steeping, I can then taste how it improves over time.

wow good to bump this old thread up. I have not use the USC for a while to steep juices. Nowadays it is used to clean gear.

My other method of quick steeping, is always leave a little bit of steeped juice left in the bottle. Then you mix your new batch in with the old stuff. After mixing, just shake like hell for a while and leave it with the cap over the bottle but not tighten. You want to still let it to air but not have any impurities go in. Before you know it, your juice will be fully steeped in a couple of days. You can tell the difference in color change pretty rapidly.

I do not take credit for this method. Saw someone post it be4 so i thought i give it a try. Works if you are remaking a juice you already have.

 

how does leaving a bit of the old juice speed up the new juice ?

i saw a video of a guy using a powerdrill which just had some wires stuck in it to make a whisk. his juice was just packed with tiny tiny bubbles. it was b.comtiful.
