PSA: Citric Acid and testing your juices for pH

Hi All

Just a quick post on how to make your juices "pop"!

Dissolve food-grade citric acid powder in PG at 10% (10g citric acid to 90ml(ish) of PG). Shake it up, it won't dissolve until you add a little bit of heat by placing the bottle in a pot of hot water for 20 minutes with continued shaking.

Add a few drops 0.5-1% to any juice to really bring out the flavours. Fruits and Bakery flavours really shine through with a bit of citric acid.

On that note;

It's worth buying a pack of litmus strips from eBay and testing your eJuices- you want them to be as neutral as possible (as neutral as a fish tank as a wise man once said) - They are about $5 for a pack of 100-200

I've yet to find a tasty lemon cream vape with a good zing, so I might venture back into DIY. I have weird cravings.

on the subject of ph - what can you use to adjust the ph of a juice?

 

Usually my juices turn out a little bit alkaline hence using the citric acid to lower the pH- but I can imagine that if your juice was acidic you might try baking soda?

 

On page 1 of the DIY thread is "Spuds Creamy Dreamy Citrus", I seriously love this recipe, and it is a popular one I get asked to make a lot for friends, you could just use lemon instead of the other citrus concentrates. Its pretty good, even if I do say so myself

It matters if you want to make some tasty-ass juice! If you make a diy ejuice and it tastes flat, it's pH is probably off and can be fixed with a little acid.

 

I like the sound of the sour worm recipe. Will have to try my hand at that one for sure.
What PG/VG ratio do you use in your juices Spud?

 

Bicarbonate of soda - make a 10% solution by adding 1 g of bicarb to 9mL of PG or VG. Heat gently to mix.
Sodium bicarbonate (bicarb) is used in nebuliser treatment for people with cystic fibrosis and lung cancer, so it's probably not going to be a bad guy in terms of an inhalant. I haven't tried it myself, but I'm very keen to give it a go now that I've done a bit of research!
It will reduce the acidity of your eliquid and won't do you any harm.

 

yeah mate i was chas'n a bit of advice regarding citric acid. I want to try this nana recipe link and it calls for 1 drop of citric acid per 1ml which seems alot but not sure on the percentage solution being used in recipe. I'm buying the citric acid powder off juice factory link and if i mix it to how you reckon and use the litmus test would that be the most ideal/accurate/best for taste? Any thoughts on what this 1 drop per ml means exactly? as in is there a common premixed citric acid out there that people are using in there e-juice recipes? cheers for any help

edit: i reread and found him referencing 1/4 tsp of citric acid powder dissolved in 10mL of PG
