    G'day everyone,
    Just after some advice from some experienced mixers. If i had 10ml of 24mg e juice and added 5ml of pure VG what would the resulting strength be, i would guess at 18mg but maybe be.comse of the viscosity of VG these levels may change. I have the Melrose VG that i picked up from the health food store. Thanks for your time.

    24 mg x 10 ml = 240mg total

    So 240mg / 15 ml= 16mg per mil

    As Dad had. Just showing you the calculation.

    16mg

    Explained
    You started with 10ml of 24mg
    You added 5ml so now you have 15ml
    The original 10ml is now two thirds of the 15ml you have
    Two thirds of 24mg = 16mg

    As for the effect of viscosity, if you measure in ml it does not apply - if you measure in drops then the VG drops tend to be bigger than PG or PG based flavours and nic.

    I use this calculator - it is free and allows me to store recipe's.

    If you don't like calculators and want to know the formula for diluting down it is C1V1 = C2V2 (c = concentration, v = volume)

    So

    24x10 = C2 x 15

    C2 = 240/15 = 16

    Might as well bung this formula in here, this is for working out how much nic to add if you want to increase strength

    Ve x ((Sd - Se) / (Sa - Sd))

    where Ve = Volume of existing, Sd = desired strength , Se = existing strength, Sa = additive strength

    So say you had 30ml of 12mg and wanted to take it up to 18mg with 100mg nic

    30 x ((18-12)/(100-18))

    30 x (6/82) = 2.195ml of 100mg to add to 12mg to make 18mg

    Excellent, thank you all for your replies. The taste is a bit thinner but it vapes quite well, i'm happy. I figured after i'd ordered that i need to lower the nic so this works quite well, i don't think i would mix any more VG than that otherwise it would taste like nothing, but 16mg is fine with me. It was the Liqua juice from Health Cabin, its only the second juice i've had but it seems quite good. Thanks again.

    Next time you order nic, get 100mg nic. Its easier to work with :)

    Anything b/n 0mg and 36mg is fine just vape it. If you cant handle it vape less.

    sludge - what u can do to dilute juices is mix up a batch of zero nic juice - either using flavouring or using a doubler - then you can use it to dilute your juice as much as you want - it changes the flavour rather than dilutes it - often improving it - especially if you have found a doubler or flavouring that u really like and you are diluting a juice that is not that good.....

    I know I'm fighting a losing battle here :D but I think it would be much clearer if we always used the 'per ml' part when quoting nic strengths.

    You had 24 mg/ml ejuice - that is, your liquid had 24 mg per ml. You had 10ml of it, so you had 10 * 24 = 240 mg of nicotine in total in that 10 ml.

    If you add 5ml of VG, you still have 240 mg of nicotine, but now it's in 15 ml. So the strength is now 240/15 = 16 mg/ml

    So, using this formula with 100mg nic and a no nic base, to make it to a concentration that i would want around 18mg i would do the following calculation for a 30ml bottle,

    30 X (18/82) = 6.58, so in a nutshell i would need 6.5ml of 100mg nic to a 30ml bottle of no nic base to make around 18mg ? My simple non maths brain makes that around 2% be.comse 30 ml / 100 = 0.3, times 2 = 0.6 now in 6.5 ml of nic at 10% we would have 6.5/10 = 0.65

    still seems to work out similar, if i did 30 ml / 100 = 0.3 then times 1.8 = 0.54 so 0.54 times 10 = 5.4 ml of 100mg nic per 30 ml bottle, so if i do ~5 / 6 ml i'm good, thats my simple way of doing it if this is correct then i would just say to myself i need 10ml of nic per 60ml bottle. How am i doing ?

    Where did the 82 come from? It should be 100 :) So it comes out at 5.4ml like in the second calc.

    I mix to 25ml in a 30ml bottle, no spillage :) So to get 18mg/ml, I would use 4.5ml of 100mg/ml base

    I was just following the original formula . So if i make my formula Total ml X (desired strength / nic strength ) that would give me say for eg: 60ml X (18/100) that comes out at 10.8 so pretty close to my simple maths version of 10ml, as long as i know how to work it out so i'm not adding to much. So that would give me 50 X 60 ml bottles of juice out of a 500 ml bottle of 100mg nic, not a bad yield, i might have to get some just in case.
