Ok here's a small update on smell, I smelt all 3 jars today, the first 2 that were cooked smelt kind of like burnt rubber, the 3rd one which only had vodka on the pipe tobacco, well it no longer smelt like vodka, It smelt just like the pipe tobacco, It was perfect smelling, I'm starting to wonder if they need steeping before boiling. Come on the weekend, I'm excited to try the first 2 and start slow cooking the third one . I actually might try a bit of the third one without cooking the vodka off, just mixing it with VG and nic and see what's that like. Jeff
Well The third batch of cherry pipe tobacco I made 100ml@18mg, Its not bad at all, but I noticed something, The flavour quickly changes on the heat setting used to boil off the vodka. I'm going to make some more tonight, and use really low heat after steeping, The best method of steeping is tobacco in a jar covered in vodka and let it steep for 1-2 weeks, The smell of liquid is the same as the tobacco, but the smell changes quickly if its boiled, I'm going to have use a double boiler next time and see if I can keep the tobacco smell, The ejuice is very clean tobacco tasting. I'm going to keep experimenting, I also was given some pipe tobacco and also I ordered 3 cans of pipe tobacco from the USA, They came in the mail just fine So I have lots of tobacco now to experiment with, And I also had more vg shipped last week and purchased some more vodka So more results to come Jeff
I gave some to the guy's from SteamEcigs today to test and maybe do a review on this thread, so we'll see how it goes, still early stages. Jeff
lol I wasn't counting on it, but who knows what the future holds, my real job is starting to piss me off, lol. Jeff
Haha! i know what you mean about the day job pissing you off! In the meantime put me down for a port royal doubler thanks
Hey Jeff, Vaping your pipe tobacco now... It's has decent vapour but lacks a little depth in my opinion. Stay with this flavour though and use it as a base as it has some really good potential and try dropping a few different tobacco concentrates into a few different bottles and I think you'll be on to something good. Mixing in my eyes is about layering, decide on a base and work from there Nat
Hi Nat thanks for the review , Its still early stages but its a start, Once I perfect the extraction/steeping process it should be a lot better, That was my third try, I don't think it will ever be overpowering flavour since I'm not adding anything into it, just steeping the essence out of it, hmmmm there was another method I'm going to try Jeff
Starting my next experiment, I'm taking some pipe tobacco adding some water, and nuking it in the microwave, This time I'm using the pipe tobacco from the USA, it doesn't have a strong tobacco smell at all, So I figured why not make a tea with violent boil in microwave then do a slow reduction on the stove and take it from there. Jeff
LoL I had about a 250ml of water in tall glass with the pipe tobacco, I placed it in the microwave for 12min, and walked away, after 8 mins I went back, there was no water left in the glass and the pipe tobacco was bone dry, lol Like it was never wet at all, When I pulled out the plate that I was using as a lid, this extremely strong invisible pipe tobacco smell hit me like train, for 1/2 of second and it was completely gone after that. Wow kind of scary with invisible gases. Anyways time for take 2 on the microwave method, This time a 3.5 min boil Jeff
after the 3.5 min boil, I smelled the liquid and it had a nice pipe tobacco smell, so I strained it and reduced it on the stove on low heat for 5 mins, It got a bit darker and lost most of it scent, so then I poured it back on top of the tobacco to steep it again and get some of the scent back. Next I'll double strain it, first with fine screen strainer i purchased from K-mart, and then I'll strain it with 500 SS Mesh that I purchased a few sheets for RBA's, but they also work great for straining really fine particles out. Jeff
Hey canuk am curious about this... am not that clever at times so was wondering... is your aim with this, just the flavour, or the something extra?
My aim is trying to make a ADV DIY organic tobacco ejuice from scratch, It should smell and vape like a pipe or cigar. Right now I have my wife picking me up a coffee grinder, so I can grind the tobacco to a real fine grit. Jeff
Hi Nat, I noticed exactly the same thing in regards to depth with my steeped tobaccos so I use them as a base now
Ok guys I'm testing my first batch and its better than the third one, the first and second batch I continued steeping and the third one was drained and strained. So It looks like the longer it steeps like 4 weeks, the better it is. With advice from a kiwi that vapes, he informed me that he uses a coffee grinder to grind the tobacco up, so I asked my wife to get one and boy does it work well, It only cost $12 and its electric 240V at Kmart the homebrand kind, I took this rough cut pipe tobacco and tossed it in, 1 min later it was like a fine powder. Man that was impressive, then I poured the pipe powder into the jar and just covered with a tiny bit of vodka, then filled 1/2 with pg and 1/2 vg. Almost Instantly it looked like it was 2 week steeped, I have a feeling this is the missing step, This time I'm not using heat, I might give it a warm bath Jeff
I tossed out the microwave water one, Just checked the latest mix #4 that I brewed up today and its so dark, you can't see any light in the jar, its almost black, This by far looks like the most concentrated one. Man I wish I had a endless supply of VG and PG. If anyone knows where I can buy a good quality supply of PG and VG, at a low price?. Jeff
