Recipe App

So, I was thinking… There is a smartphone app called BarMate or something. You can run a 'cabinet' in the app and enter all the alcohol you have in your house plus mixers and it will tell you what drinks you can make from what you currently have.

I have noticed there are a couple of half decent ejuice recipe websites doing the rounds, but none that work in this fashion.

I write smartphone apps on the odd occasion and was wondering if vapers would be interested in a ejuice recipe app similar to the above mentioned. I personally think it would be quite handy, quite easy to build locally on your PC but why not share it. Would also enable users to upload their recipes to a global database and obviously collect information this way too to build a massive database of recipes.

I think there are a couple around already. To make it shine, imo you would have to include some basic recipes and maybe some inbuilt in-app vids about wick & coil (rba & genesis) making for newbies. Have options to not upload all recipes, some may want their recipes private. Maybe a public recipe folder and a private secure with passcode.

For it to catch on, think of something that a newbie could get and use it as a learning tool too.

Just a thought.

 

There is a web site that has recipes based on what concentrates you have (can't remember it offhand) but the biggest issue is there's been no validation of the data on input and it is really messy and almost useless

For exmple you might have

TPA Ripe Banana
The Perfumers Apprentice Ripe Banana
Perfumers Apprentice Ripe Banana
TFA Ripe Banana
The Flavor Apprentice Ripe Banana
etc etc

All of which are the same thing.

If you could overcome challenges like that I think it would be very useful.

 

It would also have to have the attributes of ejuice-me-up or filberts vaping calculator (from the house of cabbage). Have a look at the structure of these two. Of them, filberts is the easiest to use. I have downloaded the ejuice calculator for my Iphone, but it doesn't take in to account the base nic pg/vg, a section for doublers/triplers or concentrates. Or what you want your end pg/vg to be.

In a nutshell I keep coming back to the first two I mentioned (which means hooking up to the net) which can be a pain in the podex at times when I want to mix something quickly. If you could simplify but retain the more indepth attributes of ejuice me up and filberts, it would be a winner.

i can see this being a bit trickier than to looks like it should be.

you mix Fart flavours at different concentrations to PA flavours. hell. you have to mix some farts stronger than other farts...


but a general mixing app..."with these 4 flavours you can make skittleb.com" type thing.

 

The DIY Assistant - Browse

Seems to have beaten you to it (click on assistant to add your flavours). It's super new so is still being worked on (it looked nowhere near as fancy last week). I think interface was the first step and now recipes will be added (he's also asking users to add recipes).

it's like telling a newbie to get a 1100mah twist from VK with some DUP from JW, with some LR EVODs.

and then having no explanation as to what anything means.

Hmmm… I would love to reply to each comment on its own but we could be here a while. Unfortunately at this stage It does not look like it would have the use/practicality that I thought it might have so will probably put it on the back burner for the time been.

1 comment about newbies getting confused with TFA, FW etc. in programming world it would be quite easy to adjust for newbies to DIY. I would simply add a acronym dictionary, that when recognised in a recipe or other text it would allow you to tape the acronym and give you the meaning from the dictionary - problem easily solved.

Smash, obviously this is a good point - however I would build a few variable tables so when you add your juice you actually tell the app who it was made by in a separate field. This way you can filter search results even further to just the flavours and brands you have - or allow it to show you all flavours with any branded chocolate concentrate. They are just a few odd variables in a table that is easy enough to manage in any case.

I checked out that DIY Link above, kind of on the money, its not bad, not as well executed as it could have been and not overly 'iPhone' friendly. Would be easy to port to a mobile format though with the right skills. JSON Parasing isn't my favourite past time….

 

yeah. even if you have a separate glossary page or something so you can keep the main search pages clean.

 

He's added a legend to the assistant.

 

I tried the website, wasted my time adding ingredients which was terribly laborious only to find it has 3 recipes on there, none of which matched any of my ingredients. Maybe try again in 12months.

Looks like it was written in Google Bootstrap from some kind of template which would explain why the site performance is less than desirable. HTML5 is the way of the future, clean, fast and efficient for ALL browsers not just Google Chrome.
