Think Capella, TPA for sure, FA, FW, and quite a few other flavour producers sent something out, but don't have a clue where, saying they're safe enough. Take a walk next to a busy road, then worry about a tiny % of 15 or 20 %...

But what I was going to say was really that Dolce de Leche gives a lovely creamy taste , as does Bavarian Cream and there's Smooth too, which is just what the name says. The new Super Concentrated (like 2 to 5 % max) that they sell in the US of A have cream and vanilla, and need really a minimum of seeping - I seep for at least an hour :D with them - makes them great for last minute flavour adjustments. Although they're great on their own too, 'cept they tend to make you lazy. 3%, Nic, VG/PG, shake, vape, and they do some really niiiice flavours too. Great for beginners, as if you can measure 2 or 3% you can't go wrong, and if you do you can put it right, really easy...
Does take a bit of fun out of mixing, but it is sooooo practical, if you just want to vape something in an hour (though some don't even wait an hour), even if they get better over a few days.

Good mixing, hopefully happy vaping, but most of all, HAVE FUN mixing your favourite flavours, and getting a whole new taste to vape :D

Diacetyl and "safe enough" don't belong in the same sentence in my opinion... but it's your health so it's your call. But if it was me I would be checking the ingredients to be sure they were Diacetyl free, even then there can be trace amounts so it becomes a judgement call for the individual. Once it does some damage there is no healing it, so "safe enough" is a big call to make. Last I read avoiding custard tones was best but flavours are lost on me so I stopped digging into it be.comse it was no longer relevant to my vaping needs.

I have some FA condensed milk flavouring coming in, it contains Diacetyl. The way I vape most of my cloud does not reach my lungs, so I am less worried about it being in my liquid at 5 or 10%. It's not an industrial sized amount.

It's important for newbie mixers and DIYers to have the information about Diacetyl and other possibly harmful ingredients so they can make an educated decision on whether or not they want to use it.

I hadn't heard of diacetyl so I googled it. This is copied from the Wiki page.

That word, 'obliterans' is scary enough for me. I'll be emailing my juice supplier to ask if there is any of this stuff in the flavours I use. Even if the amounts are tiny, I'm chain-vaping all day (or I often do) -that's too much of a risk for me.

So I email House of Liquids, since they are the ones I'm vaping like crazy at the moment. No diacetyl in those I'm happy to report.

And may you have many more days vaping that Neo :) Keep up the fight.

If I were you, I would go on it everyday just to prove everyone wrong.

Nothing sounds better than "I told you so"

    Thanks for that Rynxa.

hehehe, there seems to be alot you don't know regarding diacetyl :) Diacetyl is hardly used anymore. They've now replaced it with Acetyl propionyl and Acetoin. Afterall, something needs to be used to obtain a custard, buttery note right?

Acetyl propionyl and Acetoin both have possible inhalation risks. If you tried to avoid these 2 ingredients, you'd be down to fruit flavours mainly. Companies like Capella state they don't use Diacetyl which is true, They do use Acetyl propionyl and Acetoin though.

Consider these as substitutes, These substitutes, some of which are structurally similar to diacetyl..

A good start is to avoid anything which contains any Custard or Buttery flavours. including anything Chocolate as most of the time they'll include butter into that. Then avoid any Bakery flavours and "Sweet flavours". That should leave you down to Fruit flavours and Drink flavours. Make sure you avoid any beer flavours too.

2,3 Pentanedione has been used as a diacetyl alternative . 2,3 Pentanedione is structurally related to diacetyl and is considered a respiratory irritant-airway reactive compound. Preliminary studies at NIOSH indicate that inhaled 2,3 pentanedione injures airway epithelium (tissue) in rats, predominately in the nose, but also affects deeper airways. Additionally, recent studies at NIEHS indicate that inhaled 2,3 pentanedione .comses upper respiratory tract toxicity in rodents with features similar to that of diacetyl.

Forgot to mention; the REAL names are, acetyl propionyl (2,3 pentanedione) and acetoin

I thought there might be more to the picture Neo, there always is. :)

If these two Diacetyl substitutes are also problematic, then it follows that other chemicals in the juices are potentially harmful too.

Since none of them have been very well tested in terms of inhalation, I think there is a very high chance that within 20 years quite a few health issues will have arisen in the vaping population.

The red flag for me is that vaping is a highly unnatural thing to do to the body, much more so than smoking....as people have been inhaling smoke since prehistoric days, and of course, if they lived long enough, with the inevitable health repercussions. The body can withstand anything in the short term, it's repeated exposure over time that will get us in the end.

If I had a choice between smoking organically grown and dried tobacco leaves, rolled in untreated paper, and, inhaling the vapour of chemicals through a metal and plastic tube, heated with metal coils wrapped around silica wicks....I'd probably chose smoking as the safer option.

I'm an addict by nature though...never had the ability to moderate my vices, and I've got plenty of them. So I've always played Russian Roulette with my body, and to me vaping is just one more thing. One more excess, one more obsession.

As a temporary aid to giving up smoking, I recommend it be.comse it works, it's harm reduction. But I don't recommend it as a permanent replacement to smoking, and certainly not a safe one in the long term.

So in the mean time I'll remain interested in reducing the harm of my nicotine addiction harm reduction method. :D If that means only vaping fruit flavours, or better still, arth_d's way of vaping unflavoured, then I'll do that. Just like I chose to smoke rollies over ready-mades, as the lesser of two smoking evils.
