Organic vaping?

I'm not a purist, greeny, fanatical type by any means, but I do have a general preference for consumables that have the simplest ingredients and/or are naturally derived. And I'm DIY geared by nature, trying my hand at pretty much anything from landscaping work to personal care products. So it got me to thinking about the following...

There are natural flavour alternatives available for just about everything - cordials, confectionary, toothpaste, chewing gum etc - where natural extracts are used instead of synthetic flavour. But what about for vaping?

So I've gotta couple of q's I want to ask in regard to this:

•Are the synthetic flavours in commercial e-liquids really just flavourings meant for food/drinks?

•If so, would then the natural flavour concentrates use in food prep be suitable for vaping?

•Has anyone heard of people going even further and succesfully creating their very own flavour concentrates using real leaf/fruit material?

•Does anyone have experience/testimonials vaping 100% VG

•Thoughts on adding distilled water to DIY VG based liquid to thin out a bit? Do the commercial e-liquids have any percentage of distilled water in them?

Cheers to anyone in advance to can provide some pointers.

I think saying a flavouring is 'natural' or 'organic' is a bit misleading.

VG and PG aren't natural or Organic. Making the Ejuice not 'natural' or 'Organic. I know vaperite claim there flavours are 'organic' but who knows at the end of the day. What can we have next? A gluten free range?

 

I think Tobacco's organic isn't it?

 

Not when you extract it using PG or VG. Also it's not 'organic' when it's laced with chemicals to help it grow. It would need to be 'organic' tobacco plantation but I doubt many places do this in USA.

 

You can make DIY coffee and spice flavours pretty easily.

GT has steeped camomile tea.

I tried DIY with my own raspberries and apples, but too much sugar content...

I mostly vape 100% VG - with some atties you need to add a bit of water/PG/vodka to reduce viscosity.

As to organic - what neofelis said - without organic PG/VG and nic - organicness is not possible and shouldn’t be claimed IMO. At the end of the day though, juice is processed and purified from any raw ingredients so that I’m not sure it would make a whole lot of difference anyway.

I’ve nothing against synthetic flavours - just that I have yet to find any that are convincing - was OK early days, but now the taste buds are making up for lost time they are even less convincing.

 

Ummm, there's nothing misleading. I'm specifically taking PG out of the equation, leaving VG which is naturally derived. And organic can be used a generic term to suggest a natural alternative to where synthetics are normally used. The other planned additions to the DIY mix will also be of natural origin, if they exist and can be sourced. So...

....Unhelpful and not even correct. If what I'm talking about doesn't interest you personally, then just don't comment.

 

Ok, thanks, this is helpful. What did you use to extract/steep the botanicals? And do you think it's the same process used for chamomile tea juice you mentioned, and I guess other natural flavour suppliers?

Coffee and spice I just steep in PG or VG in a double boiler for 10 mins or so, then filtre out.

GT steeped his tea in PG for a month - so I’m trying the same.

The fruit I just squished into juice then gently evaporated the water off - obviously not the way to go.

 

i know MBV do a VG/Water base, so it is out there. I reckon anything naturally derived would have to have the lowest oil content as that screws up your attie.

You could probably get close to 100% natural if you grow your own fruits and cabbages and extract the flavours, and make your own VG using ingredients you know are naturally sourced. Some vendors also have organic juices, vape dudes comes to mind. I have several heads of cabbage fermenting in a large bucket, not sure I'm game to make a juice out of it though

Organic tobacco is grown in Canada, that's at least 1 source I know of. To make a claim that a juice was organic, it would need to fit 3 requirements IMO:
1. Nicotine is extracted from non-GM, organically grown tobacco leaves only
2. Flavors used are all 100% natural, non-GM & sourced from unadulterated sources. Ie fruits that do not use pesticides.
3. It would have to be 100% VG or alc/water/VG based juice, from non-GM, pesticide free, organic sources.

If you can get your juice to fit all 3 of those requirements, then you have Organic juice. Good luck fitting the bill though.

If you can't make all 3 requirements work but can get natural flavors only, then you still couldn't make the claim the juice is organic, that is misleading. Calling it 100% natural is fine but organic means something entirely different.
