Before I get too far into it, I was thinking about writing a 4 part guide to flavouring. Starting from the very simplest of "RTV" ejuices through to links for the advanced flavour maker and recommendations for buying raw ingredients and flavouring hardware. Mostly, it will be a whole bunch of useful links, but the very basics would be covered in Flavours 101a and Flavours101b.
I thought to include a short tldr at the beginning of each part of guide. I would need help from you guys with sourcing good vendors and video guides to stuff.
I would like to keep the terminology very newbie friendly, and include a glossary of unusual terms at the end of each part of the guide.

There's no ego in this for me. If we can get it together as a group and get the okay from management, I'd like to call it AVF's Guide to Flavours and Flavouring.. or something along those lines. If I ask really nicely, perhaps Krit would do the graphics for it.. since I read that he had done some study in graphic design.

It's just an idea.. feel free to shoot me down in flames.. here's an example of the sort of thing we might include..
It won't work unless you guys will collaborate with me in writing it, as I am not very knowledgeable yet.. but I have an idea for the sort of format it should take, so I would see myself as sort of the 'editor' if that makes sense?

    Beginners

Buy a few flavours which are ready to vape from overseas vendors.
On average, you'll need 3mL - 5mL per day. Taking into account that overseas postage can be really really slow sometimes, it's good to have about a month's supply in your stash. Ordering 5-6 30mL ready to vape ejuices is sensible, and once your order arrives and you've tasted them, identified the ones you like, it's time to re-order almost immediately. You don't want to be .comght with no ejuice, especially if you are attempting to cease smoking tobacco.
To date, my overseas orders have taken between 5 days and 6 weeks to arrive, to give you some idea of the transit time.
Pretty much everyone copes well with a nicotine level of 1.8% - 2.4% initially.
When it comes to PG/VG ratio, this is a very personal preference. The thing to keep in mind is that PG gives you flavour and throat hit, and VG gives you the white fluffy clouds of vapor, but mutes the flavour a little. You'll probably enjoy starting somewhere between 80:20 PG:VG and 50:50 PG:VG.
You're looking to buy 18mg - 24mg (per mL) ejuice which you simply add to your device (attomiser or cartridge or tank or (help me by filling in other types of delivery systems here please)

Recommended vendors of ready to vape flavours:
    Dekang
    Pink spot
    Johnson Creek
(Help me with names of other good ready to vape ejuice vendors here which you have personally tasted)

I think this is a great idea MrsG. It seems it is in the pipeline though. Now I haven't been on this forum for very long, since the 9th of January. Have done a lot of back reading though, but can't recall seeing a post about a guide to flavours? My memory isn't that bad (or maybe it is) that I have forgotten seeing a post about it on here, be.comse it is something I would remember, as I started putting one together myself a while back, in reply to all the newbies that would come to the WP thread asking about flavours. Got sick of writing the same stuff over and over. Never got round to finishing it though, story of my life.

Is a good idea no matter where it comes from, as there are so many different ways to get your juice. The good thing abut it though, is you have options right from buying pre-mixed through to making your own, and everything in between. People can do what they feel comfortable with. I suppose that can be said about vaping in general, which is why I think it makes for a new hobby for a lot of people.

This is the thread for the guide at the moment mrsgruffy. As i said it's still in development but is vieweable by all. only select few can do changes to the document itself, but if you would like anything added to the document.... drop a post in that thread, i will be keeping an eye on this thread, and if any decent info appears i will use it! :)

I realise i am one of the few who vapes a low % of nic, but i had a horrible starting experience only be.comse 18mg was too harsh for me and it was the lowest juice i ordered.

I think 30ml is too much to order of something you havnt tried. I'd suggest new vapers order 10ml bottles of varying strengths and flavours (ie 4x 10ml RY4 in 11%, 18%, 24%, %36).

Also suggest a dripping atomiser to test juices.

Add healthcabin juices to that list too:
HC E-Juice/E-Liquid : Healthcabin Electronic Cigarettes - Wholesale and Retail

I would love a guide to mixing my own juices. Even if it was as simple as buy more a than b as a is great as a base and will be used in loads of recipes.

Sign Me Up.. I think you're absolutely right about smaller volume and more variety. I think it's important to tell people as well that they may very well find their taste for ejuices is dramatically different to what they think it will be. We spent a small fortune on small prefilled tobacco cartridges, and guess what? Most of them are still in their sweet little expensive packets unopened. Soooo... 3 x 10ml bottles in each of the flavour categories, or making sure you cover a flavour from each category if you're really sure that you will only like a certain category of flavour.

In terms of mg/mL - you make a really good point too. Since this first guide is aimed at the very beginner who doesn't want any fuss and just wants it to work, and so it should contain a range of mg/mL - how about 6-8; 12-16; and 24?

    Flavour categories:
    Tobacco (cigarette)
    Tobacco (pipe and/or cigar)
    Fruit
    Desserts and sweets/lollies
    Spices
    Beverages - hot and cold
    Mints/Menthols
and... novelty - popcorn/bacon/jalapeno/pizza/hickory smoke, etc

If you have any advice on flavour categories, go for it.. if you think something's missing or I've got things mixed up.. Not sure if I should leave this here in this section of the forum or have it moved to the Guide thread.. if mods have any thoughts about this.. feel free to move it, chuck it out, or leave it here if you think it would be useful to the guide overall. This is just going to be about the ejuices. Very narrow scope so it doesn't get so convoluted and long that nobody can be bothered wading through it.

There is a reason for every item on my newbie shopping list, the 10x 10ml different flavored 18mg/ml juices are there to give the newbie a range of flavors to try & for ease of use when first starting to vape.
The 36mg/ml unflavored nic is there so they can buy doublers or concentrates on their 2nd order to try their hand at mixing & so they have something stronger to vape if needed.
The PG & VG is there so that they can mix with the 36mg/ml if they decide to use concentrates but also so that if the 18mg/ml pre-mixed juices are too high in nic strength, they can use them to dilute those juices.
Sure this will also dilute the flavor but they can order some similar flavor concentrates from an canuk vendor & have them with in 2-3 days in most cases, so the 18mg/ml juice can be re-flavored with a few drops of concentrate & diluted with the PG & VG, they already have, if needed.

By adding varying nic strengths of pre-mixed juice to the equation, on the first order, you either sacrifice the varieties of flavors the newbie can try or make it way more expensive for their initial order. I just think adding varying strengths to the initial order is getting more confusing for a newbie & more than 90% of newbies need a higher strength juice to help them get over the cravings for analogs.

    Any that are oil based I would avoid, water based are ok, alcohol based are ok, PG based are ok, VG based are ok, the problems you will run into with some of them are;
Colorings, which will help to kill atties faster.
Some chemicals, which are unsafe to vape in some flavorings, not saying they are in all but they may or may not contain them.
Particles of solids in the flavoring, which make no difference in food but which also kill/clog atties.
Sugars, which burn on atties & turn into caramel on the wire.
With water based flavorings, depending on the amount you need to use to get a good tasty vape, you may get a slight metalic taste from your vape with it, due to oxidisation of the coil from the water.

I think that just about covers it, I know some vapers have used Queens brand coconut flavor successfully to vape with.

Great list, bugzme.. I thought to put those in Flavouring 101 b - where you get to play with doublers and purchase overseas nic. :)
Then concentrates like Capella/Lorann/Flavour art etc in the intermediate guide
Then working with raw materials and flavour enhancers in advanced.
That's kind of how I've been personally working my way through learning the ins and outs of flavouring.

Scaramus - I pulled out my dozen or so Queen's essences and we tried them out. Unfortunately they were too dilute to really give us the flavour we were looking for. Of course, YMMV, and I have heard some folks do use some of the Queen's range. I've also been having a chat with someone from Robertson's, who supply spotlight with concentrated flavourings, about the possibility of creating an canadan range of concentrates, but haven't really got very far with that. I haven't given up yet though.
