    Hi I'm new to this forum and just need some advice please. I've been vaping 1.2mg ejuice and have recently bought some 100mg strength mixing juice. How many ml of the 100mg mixing juice do I add to 30 ml of 11mg juice to make it 18mg strength? If Anyone can help me with an answer that would be great. Cheers

    oo, tricky ..

    30ml of 11 has a total of 330mg nic..we can express the quantitys as ..

    (30*11) + (x*100) = y*18
    y= x+30

    x is how much 100 we need and y is the resulting total qty.

    solving for x ..
    330 + 100x = 18x + 540
    82x = 210
    x = 2.56ml

    so add 2.5ml of the 100 to the 30ml bottle and tadaaa..

    Way to confuse the poor newbies!
    There is an easier way to work it out. 1 ml of 100mg/ml in a 10ml bottle gives you 10mg/ml, put it into a 30ml bottle & divide 10mg/ml by 3 = 3.33mg/ml.
    So every 1ml of 100mg/ml added to a 30ml bottle boosts the nic content by 3.33mg/ml.

    Sure it does.
    3.33mg/ml + 3.33mg/ml + 3.33mg/ml = 10mg/ml, that's 3 ml of 100mg/ml in 30ml which is the same as 1ml of 100mg/ml in 10ml.
    No need for algebra when simple addition, multiplication, subtraction & division work fine ;)
    EACH 1ml boosts the nic content by 3.33mg/ml or adds 3.33mg/ml to the total mg/ml (Edit: in a 30ml volume).

    wrong wrong wrong
    i see you sussed it in the edit .. i would rather give 100% correct info which my method, though clunky .. will do.
    getting it wrong with 100mg/ml nic is not a good idea, yes using what you did will only be out by a little, but the amount it is wrong by varies with both nic strengths and bottle size.
    i might be confusing them, but i answered the question 100% correctly .. you have not, went on to tell me it was confusing, gave a wrong method with no warning that it has errors. now you are defending it .. with more wrong info.

    you are adding to a 31ml solution, then a 32ml solution .. what if you had 20ml of 12 and wanted to add 24 to it to get it up to 20 .. try your method and let me know the answer..

    Stoney,
    In your formula 330 + 100x = 18x + 540, where did you get the 540 from?

    You lost me as you cant use 30*18 be.comse the end product is (x+30)*18

    My head hurts

    added some bold bits above to make it easier to follow .. i hope
    and this is the 540..

    expanding .. stick formula (2) in for y

    (30*11) + (x*100) = (x+30)*18
    330 + 100x = 18x + 540 so the 540 is derived from 540 = 18 * 30 (i hope)

    My method isn't wrong at all. 1ml of 100mg/ml adds 3.33mg/ml nic per ml in a 30ml volume simple, easy & correct. My edit was for clarification be.comse I knew you were going to bring up that point that 30ml +1ml etc etc, to try to prove you were smarter than me :p

    Edit: "what if you had 20ml of 12 and wanted to add 24 to it to get it up to 20 .. try your method and let me know the answer.."
    12 what? , 24 what? , 20 what? simply putting numbers up without qualifying them by ml or mg/ml, means nothing.

    you are seriously going to go there ??

    FFS .. i will expand it then so there is no confusion.

    what if you had 20ml of 12mg/ml nic and wanted to add 24mg/ml nic to it to get the final result up to 20mg/ml .. try your method and let me know the answer.

    gee, thats so much simpler and not confusing at all now :p

    I suspect you don't want to do the math as its going to be very bloody wrong I suspect .. i am interested now though, so i will do it later if you don't..

    "what if you had 20ml of 12 and wanted to add 24 to it to get it up to 20 .. try your method and let me know the answer.."

    Assuming you meant 20ml of 12mg/ml & wanted to add 24mg/ml to get it to 20mg/ml then the answer is simple, lots :p
    But to work it out my way 20ml of 12mg/ml + 20ml of 24mg/ml = 40ml of 18mg/ml but we want 20mg/ml so, 20 ml of 18mg/ml +20 ml of 18mg/ml +20 ml of 24mg/ml= 60ml of 20mg/ml = 40ml to add.

    Edit: Yes that looks a little complicated but I wanted to show the 18mg/ml part of the equation too, since for a newbie the easiest thing to do would be to say " hmm 18mg/ml is close enough to what I want. I'll just mix it 50/50."
    The ratio is 1:2 12mg/ml to 24mg/ml to get 20mg/ml :)

    I will derive a quick formula for it in future..

    let call the original juice A, the mixing juice B and the final result is C

    QA is quantity of A
    SA is strength of A
    etc..

    now we know..
    QA*SA + QB*SB = QC*SC
    QC = QA + QB

    so we can merge the 2 formula..

    QA*SA + QB*SB = (QA+QB)*SC

    expand ..
    QA*SA + QB*SB = QA*SC +QB*SC

    group some common terms..

    QA*SA - QA*SC = QB*SC - QB*SB
    QA(SA-SC) = QB(SC-SB)

    solve for QB .. the one we want..

    QB = QA(SA-SC)/(SC-SB)

    blerch .. 2 negatives since SA is always > SC and SC < SB.. so lets swap em around and we get a formula that works with any strength and any quantity ..
    so now you can do this without any algebra .. happy :)

    QB = QA(SC-SA)/(SB-SC)

    so for the above rhetorical question

    QB = 20(20 - 12)/(24-20)
    160/4 = 40ml

    for the original question

    = 30(18-11)/(100-18)
    = 210/82
    = 2.56ml

    and just to show it was fine before .. my preformula method is ..

    20*12 + x*24 = (x+20)*20
    240 + 24x = 20x + 400
    4x = 160
    x = 40ml

    lol, cheat .. thats not the method you where using before .. you took a shortcut that actually does work, requires an assumption of knowledge though, not everyone knows adding equal amounts of 24 and 12 will result in 18..

    ah well, we have a formula now if anyone wants to use it..
    it looks ugly but only be.comse it has 5 variables .. all of which are needed.
