My Guide For Potential Vaping Converts

Hi all,

I've been off tobacco for just over a year now (yay me!), and have had lots of convo's with various people in the street, through work, the neighbours etc. I've taken to handing them a little series of dot points and links (first link is to here at canuk Vapers, of course). I thought it might prove helpful for someone new to just have a Vaping Guide Lite, so here it is:

It’s possibly a .comnting concept, making the switch. But once you’re in, you’re in.

Here’s a basic run-down of how to approach it to make it easy:
1. Do your own research on stuff – confuse the crap out of yourself, but don’t be put off, dive in
2. Don’t bother trying to start unless you’ve got nicotine. It just won’t fly. You can worry about weaning off that later, if you even want to (I don’t)
3. Visit Veppo or Halo website, order some nicotine flavour cartridges and a starter kit (e.g., Veppo Electronic Cigarette Kit | Veppo), use the nicotine mg that you currently smoke to start with
4. Don’t be stingy, get 4 or more spare batteries, a spare charger, and as many nicotine cartridges as you can reasonably afford, all different flavours, to see what you like
5. Have a crack, see what you think
6. Meanwhile, continue to research, be.comse after a couple of months, you will likely feel the urge to ‘upgrade’ and go for bigger batteries, juice tanks, box mods, whatever
7. Don’t be scared off by any BS – keep in mind that if you do this, you’re doing it for you, and you want to chart your own course so you don’t feel like you’re compromising, be.comse you don’t have to compromise
8. Vaping is empowering, if you choose to do it

Other little tips:
1. Buy your nicotine juice from what you deem to be ‘reputable’ suppliers, avoid China
2. China is OK for some hardware stuff, but I always buy my hardware from inside canada, nicotine is always direct from the US/Canada (it’s illegal to sell nicotine inside canada [for e-cigs that is], but completely fine to import a ‘personal quantity’ from an OS seller)
3. For me, I’ve now discovered, smoking was always about feeling the smoke, and, especially, feeling & seeing the exhale – weird Freudian psychological stuff, probably, so I’m a ‘cloud chaser’, I’ve pursued the hardware and juice that will give me great ‘throat-hit’, lots of vapour on exhale, and nice subtle flavours
4. You can mix your own flavours/juice combo’s – I buy straight nicotine, usually from Mt. Baker Vapor, and some canadan flavour bases, mix in the nicotine (avoid skin contact and keep away from kids), and vape away – it’s a new hobby
5. Remember that once you get started, you will not be spending cash on smokes anymore, so go a bit berserk, and buy 1 or 2 different brand starter kits, bulk up to the max. I still have all the bits I bought to get started, and occasionally, like interstate travel, the cigarette-style kits still get used even though I’ve since gone ridiculous with massive boxes and mega-batteries…
6. Always carry back-up (batteries, juice, cartridges, whatever) – the worst thing to do, especially early on, is to find yourself flat or empty; it’ll almost guarantee failure at giving up tobacco
7. Last but not least – remember that vaping is not smoking. It IS different. My motto, since I realised that I was going to stick at it, has been ‘embrace the difference’. Follow that, and you will know and feel that you are now a superior beast to all those still smoking ‘stinkies’

There will always be contrarians - that's another good thing for the new vaper to know.

 

Nice guide , but I question the Veppo link and the reference to Halo ... their are plenty of Overseas Places Like Healthcabin , Heaven Gifts , etc that DONT charge you $US99 for 2X 350mah egos, 2XCE4's chargers and 30ml of e-liquid...let alone $150 for the same kinda set-up in an Evod form !!!

BOTH HALO AND VEPPO use cheap oem kits that are branded to make them look special ....

Far better options out there , such as buying a starter kit locally( cheaper and you get local warranty and support) and then popping over to health cabin or ANY overseas e-liquid supplier to get some nic based liquid .

No affiliation! That's just where I started, and had no issues, and was happy with service and products - the 'go to' I've included just to try and make it easy for a couple of people I've given this to. Same with the 'no China' thing on nicotine, I just made my own call that I was more comfortable buying nicotine from places that had fairly reassuring claims that they were made in USA and had some standards about 'purity'.

Agree there's more out there, and that's why I make a point of stressing the 'do your own research' angle. EDIT: If I was starting out my research now, I know that my initial choices would likely be quite different from what I was seeing pop up over a year ago.

EDIT: you mention the buying of the starter kit locally, and I actually did do that (canuk Blue), and they were fine, got me off the stinkies immediately, but as I said, my guide is just a guide, and I tried to make it easy. I've found that many people I talk to are just flustered or would be easily dissuaded by the apparent complexity of it all... easier for the novice to be able to get their nicotine and their hardware all at the same time/same place, IMHO.

Good post. I also have a template email that I send to smoker friends who are curious and don't know where to start. It's a bit dated though (ie Vapebar=Gone, I'm not using the provari and clearomiser as my go to anymore.....Zna30 with rda/rba's now) .... but you get the jist

Great place to get your initial starter kit. Cheaper but postage costs a little more ($23) and takes about a week.
I'd recommend something like this as a starter kit.

The 510-T, look more like a cige but the batteries are small and need charging every 30-60 minutes.
A 900mah or 1000mah Ego batteries will last all day. You also want to get some E-juices. Pick your Nicotine MG strength. They are higher than smokes. ie 8mg smokes = 18mg E-juice

Start will a few different 10ml ones until you work out what you like. I'd recommend the RY4. It's tobacco with vanilla and caramel overtones. I like the sweet ones early on like strawberry etc but find all of them now too sickly as an all day vape. I prefer tobacco ones with hints of other flavours like caramel, vanilla, butterscotch, chocolate etc. With the juices they come in VG or PG. VG is vegetable glycerine and PG is Propyl glycerine (PG is thinner than VG) Don't get 100% VG. I tend to go a blend of 70-80%PG/30-20%VG

An important part about getting satisfaction from an e-cig is the throat hit. If you aren't getting one it doesn't cut it. Two ways of increasing this is by upping the nicotine or increasing the power of the battery (voltage) - or lowering the resistence of the atomizer/cartomiser/clearomiser.

Asian store - Best prices around. Can get a wide variety of premixed ejuice. Good to start with but the make your own ones tastes a lot better.

Once you've setup, it's cheaper to buy extra gear from here due to delivery cost, plus you get it quicker. You can't buy nicotine in canada. So they sell flavours and all the hardware. You can buy plain nic from overseas and mix yourself (down the track).

This is my favourite cartomizer. Been using these for ages. Each head lasts me about 1-2 weeks. Not bad for about $2.50. You can also wash em out but I don't bother.

I used to use a small 510 battery, then went to Ego batteries, then to a Lavatube. Now I use a Provari. Best purchase I ever made. Quality item. Battery lasts all day. Pretty expensive though and a big investment. But knowing what I know now, I would've saved a lot of money just getting one at the beginning. Once you get used to the fact that you don't hold them light a cige. You're not smoking after all, but vaping

They are Variable voltage so you can adjust to suit the ohms of the attached atomiser or cartomiser (or clearomiser). Just different names for a similar thing. It's basically the bit that screws onto the batteries and has a coil in it. You put the liquid in, the coil heats up and releases vapour that you inhale. If you have the voltage too high it can burn the coil and you get a nasty burnt vape.
All the batteries that aren't variable voltage tend to be around 3.7V. When getting a carto/clearo for these, don't go higher than about 2.5ohm for a good vape.

I could go on but will overload your brain It's a whole new world. Lots to learn but it's a fun journey. You can still enjoy your nicotine without killing yourself or people around you.

Funny how your taste in e-juices can change all of a sudden too. For 2+ years all I vaped was RY4, Caramel, Vanilla, Butterscotch etc.
Now I can't stand them!!!?

True, problem is it takes a while to get used to larger sized mods. I remember seeing a Lavatube for the first time when I was still using Ego-T's and just .comghed at the size of it. Thought to myself I'd never get something that big.

P.s - Just checked out that RSM hybrid.....Very nice. Not cheap though and a big investment for a first timer.

Probably the best advice to give would be to get recommendations from someone you know whose rig you enjoy. Vapers will almost always let you try their vape set up.

Also, point two - don't be a ******** and feel like you can vape anywhere. It's fun sneaking a puff down aisle 3 in Coles but blowing clouds at bouncers in clubs is going to get this shit banned.

I think that was an awesome guide and some great follow up posts. More information gets out there the better for everyone, especially smokers. This stuff can save your life!

Mmm How much nicotine mg concentration do you suggest for starters?

 

I agree with the point you make about using nicotine at first. You need to do this step by step, or it's never going to work, so you need to try and make the changes as small as possible. Changing to the device in the first place is more than enough to begin with, and you will get ample chance to reduce your nicotine further down the line. I know that I tried to stop everything too soon at the beginning and it didn't work very well for me at all.
