Went around to a friends place this afternoon to pick something up that had been given to me. Let's call him Barney. When I arrived, another friend was also there. Let's call him Fred. Barney, Barney's wife, & Fred were sitting at a large table under the pergola at the back of the house. I was invited to sit down & as I did so Barney & Fred proceeded to start rolling ciggies. So I excused myself & said I'll just get something out of the car.

Got the Kbox out of the car & went back around to where they were. Had one of my sub tank minis screwed on the mod. As I got close to the table I took a vape & Barney said, "Oh that's one of those electronic things", which started us talking about e-cigs.

Anyway, not far into the conversation Fred said I can't see the point. **All you are doing is substituting one thing for another. I said, but I'm only inhaling the juice & nicotine & not the other 4000 toxic chemicals. Fred said doesn't matter, all you've done is stopped sucking on one thing & started sucking on something else. The convo went on like this a bit more until it came around to the cost difference. I said this costs me about $6 a week whereas I was spending $40+ a week smoking. Fred said he spends $50 a week but he couldn't be bothered doing what I'm doing becomse he can't see the point substituting one thing for another & enjoys smoking. He just didn't seem to want to understand that vaping is better for you & costs less than smoking.

** This is what I've not heard before as indicated in the title.

People give up smoking for different reasons such as

    • financial incentive
    • health incentive
    • lifestyle incentive

Myself, I fell somewhere between 1 and 2. I enjoyed smoking, really enjoyed it and actually used vaping as a substitute to stop smoking cigarettes. With the kind of discussion you had, pointing out the similarities may have had more of an impact but it also comes down to whether a person wants to make the choice to either quit or switch or in fact actually listen and learn. Sounds like your mate is still in his own happy place and you can only let him make his own decisions
