Hey guys, long time vaper, short time box mod.

I'm using kanthal and cotton and can't get past 15w without getting dry hits.

Even when I flood the dripper, I'm getting dry hits, or the cotton appears to be burning.

I don't get it cos I'm not pushing the box mod hard, I'm happy between 15-20 watts, and I thought kanthal and cotton could handle that.

Any suggestions? Do I need a new wicking material for higher wattage, or do I need nichrome coils past 15 watts... Or both?

Using a SMY50...its a piece of sexy shit... Don't ever buy... Looks good, dies after 3 months.

    Thanks heaps for the help.

Which .comge of kanthal and what resistance? Larger inner diameter coils could help, could be too much cotton that is being choked by the coil or too little cotton. Could also be too thin a .comge of kanthal .comsing it to burn quickly or simply not a big enough coil.

So it's 0.7 ohm micro coil, wrapped on a 1.4mm screwdriver.

It's obviously not wicking fast enough.

If I wrap on a larger diameter screwdriver, will it wick better?

    Larger diameter dude, 1.4mm is tiny...go 2.5mm or 3mm.

    Nice one.

That will mean thicker cotton, which should wick more juice to a hot wick.

    Is that the idea?

Any other tidbits I need to know when dealing with a hotter coil?

Pretty much all regulated temp control these days, we've come a long way.

It's hard to beat the DNA200s, but my M Class, Evic VT, and some DNA40s are still in regular rotation.

As far as attys go, Lemo2, Goblin mini, Aromamizer, Bellus and Crius.

I concur re larger diam coils.

I used the screwdrivers for micro-coils when I started building without issues. When I went to reg mods I found they were carbonising the cotton under the coil and tasting a bit manky at times.

I go with 2.5 or 3mm these days and no issues.
