I would be mailing the supplier back Adam , VAT should only be payable for E.U. sales ?

VAT is only chargeable to a non EU country if the exporter cannot prove the goods left the EU so I cannot see why Adam should be liable for VAT. FlavArt in Italy always charge VAT if the goods are not exported to another country via a courier because they claim they cannot prove the goods left the EU with normal postage. Maybe that is the problem.

Yeah, the problem is something along those lines. It sucks really, the tax on my purchase was £39. I'm going to avoid purchasing from Europe until this crap is sorted.

    here's the response:
    Hi Tony,
We have to charge VAT on all purchases as The HMRC will not accept receipts from Royal Mail as proper proof of export unfortunately. They could potentially come along up to 6 years later on and demand any VAT back on orders we’ve deducted it on if we can’t demonstrate proof of export including a flight number. Other companies may take that risk, we don’t – VAT fraud is imprisonable here.

SO that tells me , these companies would rather rip their customers off the amount , by charging a tax that DOESNT legally apply , just to protect their arse if their paperwork isnt right .... If they cant provide the tax exemption , why are they accepting orders from countries who do not have to pay the tax .... Something fishy going on my friends ... simple as that !
I wonder if after 6 years they will send you out a cheque for the tax you have paid with interest , and a note saying " OK British Revenue didnt want it " so we never got charged for it ......probability ?.....zero !
