Is anybody here who started vaping as a non-smoker?

Just wondering. Especially, after the topic of age restriction increase surfaced.

 

Yes, I have never smoked in fact. No, that will be wronged though, I think I did try once but never officially. I started with vaping and have no plan moving to smoking at least in the near future. Vaping take care of my slight nicotine needs and it doesn't harm my body like smoking does. So, a win-win situation.

 

That is interesting, most people move to vaping in order to quit smoking I never thought that there might be people that would start vaping. Then again there are juices that are nicotine free, do it caters for everyone's taste.

 

The first vaporizers I used were non-cigarette oriented, does that count (` _____ `)? lol

But on topic though, I have a friend who became a cigarette addict because of e-cigs. We're all like, Mikey, you're...you're doing it so wrong man. Now he smokes cigars too. Guy's an animal.

 

Hmmm... My husband's friend started vaping because he wanted to fit in a group. And to fit in that group, you should have a car or a vape. Since he cannot afford a car just yet, he just bought a vape to fit in. And up to now, although he doesn't smoke, he vapes. I guess you could consider him as someone who started out vaping as a non-smoker. I don't know if he's liking vaping really or he just wants to be part of that group, hence the vaping. Or maybe vaping has grown into him already.

 

Let me ask for some kind of clarification. Did you try smoking regular cigs only once in your lifetime and never really liked it, right? If so, where do your nicotine needs come from? I can't really understand that.

 

Yep, the initial goal was presented somewhat like that. However, no one wants their product to be used for some time and eventually be given up. So, the advertisement now is gradually getting farther and farther away from the corelation with smoking. I guess, in like 10 years or so there will be no word of smoking in ads of vaping products.

 

That's very valuable expample, thanks. As we can see, sometimes the whole story can take a completely opposite turn from the very beginning. Maybe it's mainly about the advertisement issues. Vaping gets separated from smoking, as more and more people became users. Like I said before, nobody wants their products for a temporary use. Otherwise, it would be so difficult to make money off the industry.

Anyways, so I started vaping as a social thing and so that's that.

 

I actually hated smokers. I thought it was rude to blow it around someone that didn't smoke. That was always my pet peeve about it. Neverl liked the smell of it and the breath of the girls that I thought were attractive until I tried to kiss her.

Vaping was introduced to me by an old room mate. He knew that smoking was allowed in my house, but he told me he vaped and it had no smell. I was amused by the thought, and sure enough. He pulled it out and gave it a go. I had no smell and when he started using the different flavors, it actually made the whole experience pleasant. So yeah I tried it, and it has none of the residuals of what regular smoking had. No more ash and bad smells.

 

This is very true, I mean you don't say you are going out for a smoke, you normally just say I'm vaping. I think the public at large don't really know the difference.

 

My husband and I have a friend who used to smoke and quit cold turkey several years ago. Her daughter started vaping to quit smoking, so she took it up as kind of a hobby/bonding experience with her daughter.

I have to admit, I thought she was a bit crazy at first.... Seriously? Go from being an ex-smoker who quit cold turkey to a vaper? However, since she likes to buy top-of-the-line juices and shares them with us, I stopped thinking that she's crazy.

 

Oh, that's not a good reason to do anything in the first place. He should have been more polarizing. So, don't repeat his mistakes. The only people we have to truly preserve and stay faithful to are... ourselves, definitely. However, he's kind of lucky, as they do vaping, not a goddamn smoking. In the past, I used to be in a group where 2 or 3 people were not smokers. They suffered so badly.

 

Great story, man. Very true about girls. Even though I used to smoke, I never really liked the smell coming out their mouth. Sounds kinda weird, I know. To me, it's like farting. You can tolerate your own smell easily. However, when someone else farts... yeah, It feels not good whatsoever.

 

Yeah, true. The thing about vaping is that its a cut out of the cigarette market, and the cigarette market is breaking up a bit. Vaping as an alternative is just a natural movement of money that was already being spent on cigarettes being diverted to the alternative. I think the advertising isn't so much important as the fact that people already don't want to be smoking but don't have enough alternatives

Yup, it's like conformity in a sense. My husband smokes though and he hasn't taken up smoking even if they do hang out a lot. So that's a bit weird for me... Lol.

I can imagine their suffering. I've been in groups as well who have members who don't smoke. But they're still receiving the passive secondhand smoke and that can definitely harm their health as well. I wouldn't want to be in a group that jeopardises my health. Although when you're drinking, it's almost mandatory to smoke, at least with those groups I belonged in.

Thank goodness for vaping... Never going to go back to that one, smoking, I mean.

 

Yep, you're absolutely right. Being a passive smoker is even more dangerous than smoking in the first place. I used to tell people to stay away from me when I was about to smoke, as I didn't want to harm them, especially non-smokers. It's like just breathing the smoke in. No good.

 

I've seen a few people who purely vape and who've never smoked and I find it a little surreal. Nicotine isn't fun at all and it shouldn't be messed with - the only reason why most people vape in the first place is because they want to stop smoking, not because they want to start, because let's face it: we want to still get our nicotine.

I saw a thread on here the other day mentioning lowering the age limit for e-cigarettes, which would only be a gateway for younger people to get addicted to nicotine. I think it's a pretty terrible idea myself... when I have some time to myself I'm going to get a plan together to get off vaping. Nobody should want to start using nicotine as stress-relief. Nicotine withdrawal is the stress!

 

Oh yeah, nicotine withdrawal is the stress. But, if you have developed a dependency, vaping can help you meet the need as well. I know people who go to great lengths to make sure they don't go back to smoking. My boss at work drinks a ton of strong tea, its sort of his way to stay away from cigs. He doesn't like vaping either. And has been able to let go at least for now.
