When I was a full-time 2 pack a day smoker, it was the norm for me to get either bronchitis or pneumonia every winter. So, a couple winters ago I ended up sick again even though I had started using an e-cig about a month prior to getting sick. My doctor asked me if I still smoked and at that time I had cut down to maybe 5 cigs a day and was vaping the rest of the time. I was shocked when my doctor told me that vaping caused bronchitis and pneumonia just like actual smoking does. Have any of you been told this by doctors as well?

What e-cig and regular cig both have in common? Nicotine. In other words, your doc told you that the excessive consumption of nicotine causes the illnesses you suffer from. Or, maybe, contributes to them. Doctors don't usually care about the exact device.

To be honest when I cha ged from cigarettes to vaping, I didn't even consult my doctor. I already did enough of my own research to find out the pro's and con's so I didn't really need his advice.

There's enough information out there for people to make up their own minds in my opinion.

I worked for a doctors office for over 14 years and after seeing how brain-washed the doctors are by the government and how the government has the doctors wrapped around their fingers, I don't have any interest in what a doctor has to say about the effects of e-cigarettes to be honest. I know this seems like a long stretch with what i'm saying, but if you knew the things that I know that go on, you would feel the same way. I'm confident enough with my own research when it comes to e-cigarettes.

Yeah, people over 40 tend to become more and more conservative. They usually don't trust much to newer things like latest research or something very similar.

Of course, when a doc says that smoking/vaping won't improve your health... he/she is right. I don't know anybody who got stronger because of this habit. However, you can't just go and slam everything new left and right.

My doctor pretty much said that anything but healthy food, water and air is unnatural to the body. As long as you're consuming something that doesn't resemble nature, there are consequences, and there are people doing way worse than vaping with their lives. It isn't the worst thing, but if you're aiming for ideal health, you'd be dropping most modern pleasantries out of your life anyways, so it's about picking and choosing your battles.

LOL... I'm over 40 and I go out of my way to keep up on the latest research for a good number of things. :)

Actually, my doctor prefers that I vape rather than smoke because my lungs are clearer, I have fewer sinus and bronchial infections, I'm not subjecting myself to as many carcinogens compared to smoking (her words), and I'm hitting my inhaler less frequently. Of course she would rather I not vape or smoke at all, but she considers vaping the lesser of the two evils.

As for "stronger," all I know is that since I have started vaping more than smoking, I can climb more stairs and hike longer without running out of breath. It may not make me stronger, but being able to breathe after extended periods of exertion has helped to make me more active; which is something that those of us over 40 need to worry about since our metabolisms aren't what they used to be. :)

Well my personal doctor happens to be very rude, so when I mentioned it to him he did not really give any sort of enthusiasm, but of course it is better than smoking. I think we all know that inhaling anything other than air is probably not going to sit well with any health professional, but you have to take things as they come and I really couldn't care less what he thinks. I do think that the research out there is still pretty new, so anything definitive might have to wait a little bit, from a medical or academic perspective at least.

My dentist says it's way better, as my mouth is not dirty anymore. After I vape, there is no smoke smell on my teeth. It's healthier for them.

Ah, good point arty! Totally forgot how pleased my dentist was a couple months ago with how much better the staining from the cigarettes looked. I am not a fan of anything but natural whitening, and my teeth stay pretty white now :)!

True, but some people with chronic diseases should consult with their doctors before taking up vaping. My friend has liver disease and was advised by his doctor to vape max VG juices because both are filtered out by the liver, but the VG is easier on the liver than the PG. My friend would not have known this if he had not consulted with his doctor.

People with allergies and/or asthma (like me) need to be careful when vaping because certain flavorings, VG, or PG can cause an allergic reaction. Sustained exposure to an allergen that results in the over-production of mucus can cause sinus or bronchial infections.

I did not really ask my doctor for permission to vape, or if it was good for me. What I asked her was, given my chronic conditions, if she knew of any ingredients that I needed to avoid when vaping. She told me to use my judgement when it came to flavors because I know what causes a reaction when I ingest or smell something, and what doesn't. She warned me that I might have a PG sensitivity and advised me to get juice with lower amounts of PG if I noticed a slight allergic reaction to an eliquid that I would normally be able to vape.

I haven't even seen my doctor since I started vaping. I think the last time I saw him was two years ago. I don't think it would concern him really, I never smoked much before and I don't vape much now, so a slight improvement from his perspective.

Is it true? I thought the side effects of smoking are not found in vaping. I recently started vaping and didn't see my doc for years. I have to consult him, I like vaping but if my doctor say its harmful just like traditional smoking then I have to cut on on the intake.

According to the latest "research," vaping is almost as dangerous as smoking. I'm a bit skeptical of those findings since nothing in the findings indicate the ejuices' source, the source of the ingredients, or which flavors subjects were vaping. There are other factors involved as well, so I don't think the researchers tested enough subjects or ejuices to support their generalized findings.

If you are worried about allergies or asthma, the precautions I take when vaping are common sense; especially since my asthma is triggered by allergies. If I avoid a PG ratio higher than 50-percent and certain flavors, vaping seems to have improved my quality of life

I was talking with a friend whom which I used to work at a doctors office with. She was telling me that the doctors have absolutely not issue with employees smoking e-cigarettes in the doctors office (out of patient view of course.) I was really surprised to hear that, but I thought that is was great that the doctors were cool with it. When I heard that it made me think of this thread right away, so I wanted to share with you guys. ;)

It's not healthy as long as you use nicotine. That's why everyone in the media is trying to put vaping down.

Again, we've got research saying vaping is a great way to quit smoking, then other research saying it's just as bad so at the end of the day, who are we supposed to believe?

If everyone who vaped went back to smoking cigarettes, would that make the researchers happy?.I wouldn't have thought so unless these researchers actually worked for the tobacco companies.

Oh now, hang on, wait...who's to say that they don't?

That's a good point! However, they actually pretend as if they cared about non-smokers who are willing to try new things.
